Leading on from the thread about other dogs your one hates, does your dog have a particular friend?

Maggie generally likes other dogs, especially pubs (she's 6 months). However she's got a special friend called Albie, who we meet up the park. They instantly recognise each other and are clearly delighted to see each other and indulge in some rough and tumble play. I reckon he's her boyfriend . It's cute!

Pups, though she's fond of pubs too. Or maybe that's us forcing her to like pubs.

My dog loves pubs, pugs not so much. He hangs out with next doors dog sometimes, they go off into the overgrown part of my garden on adventures

Yeah my little parson is best friends with my SIL huge lab. They are adorable, mine is absolutely in charge, which is just as well as she puts her entire head into the labs mouth!

She is quite sociable generally but has two special friends who send her loopy with happiness. One she has known since she was four months old (now four years) and has seen at least a couple of times a month since then, and another she rarely sees but is just smitten with.

She has 'other' friends, but I think she would say that these two are her besties. They would be in her phone under 'favourites'.

I used to live in a rural area and nearest neighbour was a mile away. They let their two dogs roam a bit and sometimes the dogs would come across the back fields to my house to " call" on my dog to come out to play!

We had 3 ddogs and got another. Not really by choice!!
Never expected them to be proper friends after 4 years of ours in their own bubble and new ddog being an outdoor poacher's ddog.. But they all genuinely love her!. Sadly none of them have any other friends.

Both of mine absolutely adore the cocker spaniel next door and my brother's dogs. It's odd because they ignore every other dog they meet and will just walk on by. As soon as they see either next door or dbro's dogs they turn into massive idiots 😂

Dogs, like horses, definitely have preferences. Leave a group of horses to pick their spot in a ride, and the pals will end up side by side. My older dog had dogs he likes, dogs he tolerates and a few dogs he can't stand. The younger one is a total flirt and will play with anyone, but she has a couple of particular mates she loves to see.

Defo! My friend and neighbour has a lab, I have a sighthound. They adore each other!

My Marrema is best mates with a big Rotty. When we take ours to the park he sneaks into the Rottys garden and they play. The owners are fine with it luckily!

Totally. Our dog has a friend who luckily belongs to a woman that I really like as the dogs lollop around happily together for a good half an hour each morning at the park, leaving us to wander behind and talk. Both the dogs look for the other the minute they get to the park and then have a wonderful body crashing greeting. Makes my heart sing every time.

My retriever absolutely loves her beagle ‘cousin’ (siblings dog). They will wrestle for ages.
At the park she will gravitate towards a male retriever and they do their funny bouncy play together. Her best friend is a French Mastiff pup of the same age. If anyone tries to join in their play they will walk away and start again in a different corner of the park 😂

Yes - a couple of spaniels, a huge sheepdog/Newfoundland cross, the husky who lives next door and a rottie!

Absolutely and without doubt he has friends. Two in particular. Watching them greet each other on a walk is like watching that scene in the railway chilren or something.

They spot each other at a distance and pause.

Yes! It is!
Run towards each other at full pelt.
Reach each other and spend a minute running side by side, no gap between them, perfectly in sync.
When we have to part, he cries...

My old man is 17 now and has had many pals over the years, but I remember last year him meeting another old boy in the park, and they had a lovely time playing together. Never seen old dogs playing.before - or since for that matter. It was lovely. Sadly the other one has now crossed the bridge.

Yes, my two labs have their friends. One is besties with a Munsterlander in the village and the other likes another lab. They have a wide circle of other walking and playing friends, too, but seem to have most in common with other working retrievers. Their son/brother also lives in the village and they go through the same Railway Children scene you describe, missbattenburg

Yes - my lab cross is particularly keen on a Dalmatian we often see on his walks. He gets super excited (no, not like that, he's been done) when he sees her and they spend a good ten minutes zooming around chasing and playing.

Yes! We are part of an informal doggy social group and we get together most mornings, usually after the school run. Mine loved her doggy pals and gets really excited when near the park so she can play. They run around, chase each other and generally just play and have a great time. I think it's really lovely seeing dogs playing, the dogs all get on brilliantly and share treats and toys, and are all welcoming to new dogs and puppies.

Yes, My dog has 2 dogs in particular that he really really gets on with. He can sense one from about 2 fields away, and just pegs it over to him!

When my dog was with us (sadly died this year at 17) he was best friends with my first rabbit! Would chase eachother in the garden and take turns playing tag, then snuggle upnin the corner!

Yes! My boy is super nervous and doesn't really like other dogs but there are now 5/6 local dogs he likes to play with that he's got to know over time.

Yes, three or four she loves and one is her absolute romeo, but she rarely sees him. All are boys

My previous dog had the bestest friend ever. She was another JRT and they simply loved each other. She was quite bereft when he died and she hasn't really accepted my dPup who she seems to think has simply been brought in as a newer model. Not helped by him being a great huge hairy hooligan, unlike his dapper predecessor.

DPup does have a couple of friends that he meets when out walking -
in particular a springer spaniel pup who is his age - and he's very sociable. That said, I tend to avoid groups of humans with free running dogs tearing around without much in the way of control. Things get very easily out of hand - my pup has already had a sprained wrist after an encounter of this type that my instincts told me I should have avoided - and I'd much rather we lead a quieter existence which involves meeting a couple of compatible dogs occasionally but safely!
