Getting rid of fleas

Last week I spotted a couple of bugs running through my dog's fur. She was scratching and scooting a bit more than usual but not excessively.

I've given her spot-on treatment. I thoroughly combed her with a flea comb (nothing came off). I'm giving her a shower with anti-flea shampoo tomorrow.

I've washed all the clothes me and DP have worn for the last week on a 60C wash. I stripped the bed, hoovered the mattress, washed the bedding on 60C. I'll do this all again once I've used the shampoo on the dog (dog sleeps in my bed). I've washed all the dog's toys and blankets on 60C and will give them back to her once she's been shampooed. I've hoovered the whole house every day for the last four days and will hoover every day for the next week.

Please, please reassure me that this should be enough to get rid of fleas from the dog and the house.

I wouldn't shampoo them if you've used a spot on. Which one was it? Best to use a vet one rather than an OTC one

Indorex spray supposed to be good for treating the house

It was the Frontline Spot On treatment.

The box said to wait 72 hours before shampooing. I gave the treatment on Saturday and was going to shampoo on Tuesday.

I bought some Indorex for the house but read somewhere else that these spays should only be used when you have a severe outbreak or infestation which I don't think we have

Frontline isn't supposed to be very effective. I'd still get a vet treatment and treat monthly

Just because it says to wait before shampooing doesn't mean yout should do it

Stop using frontline. It completely useless and fleas are known to become resistant to it. Get stronger stuff prescribed by your vet. A bit dearer but it works. Also vacuum everywhere and spray all floors and furnishings with indorex

I've always used Frontline in the past as preventative treatment and never had any flea issues with the many, many other dogs I've had. I'd always thought Frontline was quite good. Yikes.

Silly question but do I need a prescription for a vet flea treatment? Or can I get one from behind their counter?

So @ysmaem should I use Indorex even though I don't have a severe infestation? I thought it was only used when there was a bad case.

Indorex is very effective. I do our house once a year as a prevention. It kills fleas as they hatch for many months so stops a cycle of infestation.

@DirtyDennis yes use indorex now. Its effects last a year. Use it as prevention method.
