Can I ask you to help me find the right breed

I'm a sahm with a 2 & 4 year old and we are really wanting to get a puppy (have tried to rehome an older dog but because of the kids age they don't allow children under 5/6/7 very frustrating but understandable.
I know what comes with a puppy, the chewing the mess the training etc, we've had dogs in the past. Currently have a rescued bulldog who is amazing with other dogs, cats, kids and people.
I'd absolutely love another bulldog but won't because of the breathing problems they can have. (We've been very lucky with ours)
Does anyone have any suggestions, as I'm not obviously wanting to go out on a whim with this and not wanting to grab the first dog/puppy we see. I want to educate myself up on the breed etc before even considering.

Just to add we have a 12 acre field so the dog would have plenty of space to run/play etc. Plus I'd like to crate train also (not sure if that's relevant) puppy wouldn't be left for any longer that half hour in the morning and late afternoon (school drop and nursery drop)

You’ve not really given anything to work with I think is why there’s no answers...

Size? How much time are you wanting to spend walking? Do you want something more likely to want to play, or something more laidback? Are you wanting something you can do a lot of training with?... or just the basics? How much grooming are you happy to do? Do you care about shedding?...

That sort of stuff...

If you like bull breeds maybe try Bullies-in-Need (often have odd other breed dogs & puppies in), they have quite a few fosterers with kids so do home to families.

Staffy immediately comes to mind if you like the bull look and want something good with children. Lovely personalities.

Re your 12 acre field, I'm sure you know most dogs won't just run round a field on their own. You'll still need to walk them. Exceptions maybe if you get a greyhound and have rabbits to chase!

BTW pretty sure other posters have said some greyhound charities will rehome to homes with children.

I think you need to be realistic about how often the dog will be left - what about days out at the weekend? Trips to the zoo or the pool or the cinema? While you can leave an older dog a good few hours a young puppy would struggle and I suspect wee and pop all over your house!

What kind of exercise can you give? A field to run about in isn't a substitute for proper walks which need to happen everyday. Dogs need to go to new places and experience new people and smells and other dogs.

What kind of size dog do you want? What about coat? What qualities do you want from a dog?

A working Cocker Spaniel would be my choice. A family member has one and he has been a dream dog to train. Naturally a few chewed things when a puppy, but marvellous with the children and the cats. It is the most placid dog I have ever encountered.

Spaniels generally have lovely temperaments and would love your big garden to run around in. (They have loads of energy.)

Golden retrievers - another great family dog. Labs, ditto.

Smaller breeds good with children include bichon frises or miniature poodles. Shelties, if you don't mind doing a lot of grooming.

Some of the giant breeds, eg Bernese Mountain Dogs, St Bernards, can have lovely placid cuddly temperaments - downside is they don't live as long.

But lots of potential options depending on other issues. Maybe something which will grow to a similar size to your bulldog so they play happily together without anyone being overwhelmed?
