Maggie my 5 month old puppy is fascinated by the washing machine. If she sees you coming down the hall with washing she knows where you're heading and will race you to the machine and watch with fascination as you go through the motions, often trying to close the door herself. She will then watch it for a while as if it's the TV. If she's in another bit of the house when the cycle finishes she runs in when she hears the bleep and again appears fascinated by you taking the washing out.

She is also interested in the dryer but not to the same degree. The only time she's interested in the dishwasher is to see if she can lick any gravy off plates.

She's puzzled by the vacuum and the broom and will bark at both when they're being used.

Anyone else's dog show similar behaviour?

Yes, my dog loves the washing machine. She will come and let me know when it's finished. She'd probably make a good assistance dog as she likes to empty it as well if I let her. I like to think all this interest is a sign of intelligence. She is also fascinated by the lawn mower, and gets ridiculously excited when I go and get it out, and then has a mad five minutes of haring round the garden. Dogs are endlessly amusing!

Another one interested in the washing machine here! Although I think it’s because he’s hoping to run off with any pants or socks that fall out on loading/unloading.

Here too, never when she was younger though. She's 6 now and sits there whilst I load it and runs in when it beeps at the end. She also comes running for the microwave when it beeps, the fridge...when it beeps. I'm sensing a theme
