Recommendation kennel for dog with issues

I have had my gorgeous girl for 18 months. She is a rescued Romanian street dog.

She is absolute perfect in the house, happy and playful. Loves the family etc. Unfortunately she is very afraid of other dogs. She likes to look at dogs from about 1 meter away but gets frightened and growls if they get too near her.

She is a big, athletic dog and has escaped from doggy grooming room away from other dogs and ran back home.

I am looking for a kennels that will understand that certain things upset her and that she is a big escape risk.

Bottom line is if I cannot find anything I will holiday in UK.

You might be better considering someone who pet sits in their house (assuming they only have one at a time and no pets of their own). Or maybe a pet sitter who stays in your house. Your dog would then be in her own surroundings and it maybe less stressful for her.

Can you afford a pet sitter at your home? It's more expensive than kennels but might be better for your dog.

Or a home boarder and do a trial first if they have their own dogs.

Thanks Takingabreak again. I could not trust her to want to escape from both those situations and would worry that people would not take the escape risk seriously enough.

She has had a dreadful start in life and certain things trigger a flight response in her.

I'm not sure how a kennels would be safer for her though. There would always be so many dogs there which would make her more frightened. She could just as easily flee from there.
With a boarder or home sitter you could build it up slowly, one night at a time, until you, your dog and the sitter were happy.

Have a look at Holidays4dogs, we've found an excellent couple who have our very nervous rescue dog when we go away through this site.

What area are you in? I use a kennels which consists of only two kennels (so is booked way in advance - the downside!) run by a qualified behaviourist and positive trainer with immense experience with all sorts of "issues". She rescues dogs that aren't straightforward herself and works with them. My current dog is fine, but he adores her and I know he is totally safe there. You can opt for no contact at all with other dogs or for introduction to suitably assessed other dogs if there are any and the dogs get two good on lead walks per day, plus a session in a securely fenced paddock for a good run about.

I used a smaller kennels (7 dogs) because ddog isn't that keen on his fellow canines. They have an enclosed yard for exercise. A good pet sitter would be safer though

RidgedPerfection - this sounds like the ideal place for my dog as she would be safe and maybe there may be success with her issues. Would you be able to PM the details to me? I will take my dog anywhere in the country for her to be safe.

My poor dog is so loving and good in every way. She had trust issues when she arrived but is now happy to greet any strangers. She loves seeing dogs on the street it is only if they come too near that she gets frightened.
