Does anyone know anyone that breeds chihuahua cross Pomeranian?

Preferably in the South purely for ease of driving :)

Many Tears are a small breed rescue, look there not lining some grabbers pockets.

I’m not trying to be rude, but can I ask why you want a Pom chi cross? I have a Pom, and I honestly can’t see any reason or advantage to crossing them.

Why would anyone do that? other than to get wads of cash off gullible buyers

Can I ask why you're interested in that particular cross? What characteristics are you hoping for?

I've got a cross, and can assure you that while there seems to be a myth that crosses give you the best of both, it's really just a random mix of both - you can just as easily get the worst of both breeds.

Whatever you do choose in the end (be it pure pom, pure chihuahua or a cross) be aware that they're all popular with puppy farmers - so do your research, go in with a critical eye and be prepared to walk away from a litter if things don't feel right. Puppy farmers can be devious bastards who takes a puppy home only to find its died an awful and expensive death from parvovirus (or similar) within a week.

If you're set on this cross, there's a site (American) with some info including the potential health issues - each parent should have had the breed-appropriate checks. It suggests considering a rescue as it's more obvious in an adult if it does have issues.

Look I have a ‘designer dog’ which I did not choose I re homed. I did not buy this dog.

He is a Maltese X Yorkshire terrier and he looks like a teddy bear. He has Maltese tail and ears and a very yorkie face. He’s lovely. He is long haired and doesn’t shed. He basically looks like a yorkie with a funny tail

There is something I can’t understand about cross breeding and I do actually want to know. What is the point?! I understand if it is to breed for speed and agility or something but I do not understand why you need to mix 2 very nice breeds anyway. Often they are very similar to almost identical and there is nothing to be gained no benefit! I still have to groom my Ddog and all that would come with either breed

It's highly unlikely anyone on here is going to be able to recommend such a person, as you've probably already gathered.

The problem with these sort of crosses is that they are, in the vast majority of cases, bred by puppy farms, where the conditions for the dogs is a lifetime of being bred over and over whilst living in squalor.

Once the dogs or bitches are too old to breed they tend to be dumped or got rid of in some way - it isn't done humanly.

Many of the puppies coming from puppy farms will die pretty much as soon as the buyer gets them home.

If not bred at a puppy farm, it will be from a back yard breeder - someone breeding from their pet dog and whilst this type of breeder will likely be far kinder the dog is still coming from an unreliable background.

You are not going to find a proper responsible breeder of this sort of cross, or any crossbreed, in the main.

Hence people on the doghouse take a very dim view of people actively looking for dogs of this type, which is why you've had the response you've had.

You might not want negativity on your thread but tbh there's not a lot one can be positive about with these kind of breeders.

I know some very nice little Pomeranians. Why would you want a cross specifically?

I have a street mutt. Who knows what's in him. He's probably a multi generational mutt. Lovely dog, we based our choice on the foster home's assessment.

I understand pure breeds, properly bred. You know what you are getting to a certain extent. A whippet will run, a collie will herd and a chihuahua will snuggle.

I don't understand these crosses. Who knows what you'll get and they aren't mutts so you don't get the possible health boost of a healthy mutt. And it's unlikely to be a very ethical breeder who does proper due diligence so chances are you'll get the worst of all worlds; random traits and all the genetic health issues.

No I don’t get crosses either at all. My Ddog has a weird coat. It is kind of wavy/curly and when it gets long it all gets matted. It doesn’t look anything as nice as a pure Maltese or a pure yorkie show dog even if I brushed it, it’s just weird hair and I have to get him a no 3 all over to control it! Therefore he looks very teeny and half bald with his fluffy tail and fluffy ears. Surely if you like a X breed of dog’s coat or colouring or size you would go for that, with a X you do not know what they will look like grown and they could have a mix of the worst traits and features

Looking at the site linked above why would anyone purposely want to breed a "pomchi" and why would you spend ££££s on one, it seriously looks like a mismatched mutt, chi head is way too small pom for body.

Not recommended for homes with children either.

But I mean mine when long is not the best, why not just have the full breed with the tail?

I'm afraid as often happens the OP has gone off, whether in high dudgeon or having absorbed the serious advice - which isn't 'negativity', it's realism from people who are positive about dogs and their welfare.

But if she's still reading, maybe she could try asking instead something like, this is the sort of dog I'd like, for these reasons - what breeds from reputable breeders might match my criteria?

To the people asking legitimate questions, thank you. I take in board your comments. I have been raising dogs my whole life so please don't imagine I'm a person who wants a designer dog. My sister managed to rescue a pomchi and it's the most wonderful dog I've ever met in my life. I always keep an eye out for similar dogs on rescue sites and have yet to find one suitable.

I have been around both Poms and Chi's that are pure bred and I'm not opposed to either.

It was a question based on research and dog knowledge.

Anyone that feels the need to get on their high horse and lecture rather than sending informative and helpful posts really needs to give their head a wobble and look at what they're doing.
