Cockapoo breeder

Can anyone recommend a cockapoo breeder? We're in sw London but dont mind travelling. We're looking for a black or tuxedo cockapoo puppy from the end of August. Thank you.

My sister has just got 2 cockapoo puppies from a friend who bred their family pets and the puppies have been raised also as pets around the children in a lovely home environment. The pups don't moult and are lovely calm beings. They expected 7 pups and had allocated homes with friends/acquaintances however ended up with 12 so there is a chance there are some left but possibly too far as we are in Scotland. Probably the Facebook page is your best bet and you can identify puppies from a similar background a bit closer.

Have you checked out rescue centres.
You might not find a cockerpoo, but you could find a great puppy

In fact, this member of the council [poodles recognised affiliation] would seem to completely disagree with you,

^Member of The Poodle Council - Regulated by The Kennel Club The Club does NOT support the inter breeding of Poodles with other breeds nor the breeding of Parti-Colour Poodles for exhibition.
Please do not embarrass us by asking for advice on these matters^

This is the primary text thats appears on their web site! Its obviously a big issue

tisonlymeagain · 15/07/2019 16:33

There are a couple of Cockapoo UK owners groups in Facebook OP. You might find more constructive and helpful advice there.

Smotheroffive · 15/07/2019 16:34

And here we go...bag yourself a puppy on facebook

Ihaventgottimeforthis · 15/07/2019 16:37

The thing is, you're looking for a puppy you can bring home in six weeks time.
That means a puppy out there who is already perhaps three or four weeks old, who the breeders have not found a buyer for yet.
That in itself is cause for concern.
Breeders should ideally only plan litters that they have homes for.

Smotheroffive · 15/07/2019 16:40

This myth around not moulting.

The poodle gene (non-moulting)
X
Springer/cocker gene (moulting)

Simple genetics work it out!

Please tell me OP that you know about the suffering of OC affected poodle types? How can you be sure any puppy you get would be free of it, its horrendous, and you wont see it by looking at a puppy

ARGH this is the last thing ANYONE should be doing when buying a puppy of any sort.
Gonna have to step away before my head explodes.

tisonlymeagain · 15/07/2019 16:41

Not at all @Smotheroffive 🙄 but if the OP is looking for some breeders, a good place to start would be with other owners.

My friend also did find her Cockapoo this way, but it was a rescue puppy who was about 6 months old and needed rehoming. There are plenty of rehoming charities on FB. It's not a den of iniquity...

I honestly don't know why there is such a contingent of people that can't keep their opinions to themselves. OP was asking for breeders, not for lecture or the ins and outs of puppy breeding. Why can't people just read and move on if they can't or don't want to answer the question asked.

Smotheroffive · 15/07/2019 16:44

Yes definitely find more constructive ahem biased, advice on fb, which as we know is the height of professionalism and medical knowledge Hmm

How insulting that the dog protection advice given here has been eshewed as not constructive.

GrimDamnFanjo · 15/07/2019 16:45

The OP has asked for reputable cockerpoo breeders and that's the problem.
There are very few if any at all.

Ihaventgottimeforthis · 15/07/2019 16:47

tisonlymeagain this is an internet forum, and you're expecting people to keep their opinions to themselves, around such a contentious issue as puppy breeding?!
Dream on.
This is a topic an awful lot of people feel very strongly about. It's worth potentially pissing off a random OP to keep getting the message about puppy farms out there, as things don't seem to be changing.

Booboo66 · 15/07/2019 16:48

Well I'm not on any dog pages as I don't have or want one but I am on pages for other animals that I own and care for and you very quickly get to know the genuine owners/hobby breeders, someone who is having a litter from their pets etc. anyone who is dodgy in the slightest is outed very quickly and removed. These are usually people who are passionate about their pets and the breed on the pages. Other cockapoo owners can give better advice/recommendations than mumsnet I'm sure. I'm sure OP knows the right things to see and ask once some potentials have been identified.

Smotheroffive · 15/07/2019 16:55

I think its to be expected bearing in mind this is a place of animal lovers, dogs specifically, and the appalling glut of puppies ending up in rescue centres.

OP hasnt answered anything! It doesnt make sense. Atall.

What research, research that has led her to come here is not robust research.

GrimDamnFanjo · 15/07/2019 16:57

As I said upthread the issue is that there are very few reputable breeders.
You can't really compare poo crosses with other dog breeds.
There's no breed standard for looks - it's a gamble which genes your dog will inherit. Just google photos and you can see that there's no real common look or size.
And then there's the health issues to consider.

BurnedToast · 15/07/2019 17:00

Am I living in a parallel universe?

As I've already bloody well said I just want to know if any of you can recommend a breeder. I am not such a moron that I will then trot along and just buy any dog. Neither am I saying I must have the dog in 6 weeks time. That's the earliest date we will be ready as I have preparations to make for the puppy. This forum is as good a place as any to ask a perfectly reasonable question. There are very few reputable breeders so it would be good to start with one someone has recommended.

Seems to me the mention of cockapoo brings out the Barbara Woodhouse in some desperate bid to impart your 'expert' knowledge. Quite a bit of it it being BS.

No, I don't care what you think about cockapoos. No I don't need you telling me what I should be looking for because I have already got that information.

Anyway. Thank you for the people who have PM'd with some breeders for me to investigate further. I'll leave the rest of you to froth and foam to your hearts content.

Smotheroffive I haven't answered anything because I don't have too. This is not the Spanish inquisition. Seeing as you didn't even know about phantom poodles I'm not sure you're quite the expert you seem to think.

OP posts:
Smotheroffive · 15/07/2019 17:12

you didn't even know about phantom poodles

You missed this bit off that ner ner ne ner ner. There you go.

Why would i know about phantom poodles?!?!

Have you come here to simply attack pp?

I made it clear my areas of experience, it doesnt include poodles, other than in a specialist with years of experience type way

Peanutbuttericecream · 15/07/2019 17:12

This forum is as good a place as any to ask a perfectly reasonable question

Sadly OP, when it comes to dogs that's not the case. You can ask a perfectly reasonable question about getting a puppy and you will be bombarded with answers telling you to get a rescue, usually a greyhound and giving you dire warnings about puppy farms.

There are individuals on here who think they know everything about dogs and that the rest of us are completely stupid.

Good luck with your search. I hope you find a lovely puppy.

Ihaventgottimeforthis · 15/07/2019 17:21

BurnedToast it's nothing personal, it's just that this world is populated by morons who will 'trot along and just buy any dog' so the posters responding on here are responding to those. We don't know you from Adam.
If you do think a parenting forum is as good a place as any to get specialist advice on dog breeding, then you should expect these kind of responses. Any decent answers were always going to come via PM anyway so don't get annoyed at us Grin.

GrumpyMiddleAgedWoman · 15/07/2019 17:42

I'm happy to give dire warnings about puppy farms, because they are bloody awful for the breeding dogs and can leave the puppies with long-term behavioural issues. Plenty of people lurk and never comment so if they can be persuaded to pause and think, then that's to the good.

OTOH, I have nothing against cockapoos, I just don't don't know anyone who breeds them. The ones I know are nice little dogs, cheerful and responsive, and lively without being manic.

Smotheroffive · 15/07/2019 17:52

Tbh OP you will need to be prepared for many questions from people who love their ddogs and have concern for the greater population in general and strive for better for ddogs.

This is particularly true of good breeders who sre very careful who they let their puppies go to.

They dont let them go to just anyone, if you come across one like that, walk away.

Christ. Two puppies at once. And spaniel crosses too. Good luck training those. Grin

I just wanted to say re the colour, cocker spaniels can throw any mix of colour. In my old boy’s litter there were black, black & white, brown, brown & white, gold and lemon roan.

Booboo66 · 15/07/2019 19:04

@fivedogstofeed I'm really confused about your issue with this? Both are very experienced and loving dog owners, the puppies are from dogs my sister knows well and are healthy, happy and extremely well socialised
