Does this sound like a tummy bug?

So obviously dogs will get sick (especially the rank things they eat!)

Our almost 10 month old refused his breakfast a couple of mornings ago, and then had diarrhoea all day, by the evening he was wining for dinner so had some plain boiled chicken. The next day back to normal, eating and poo back to normal. Yesterday his tummy was bad again, refused dinner and came down to sick in the night.

If it was a bug would it have got better then worse again? Very odd! He’s drinking and ok in himself although was more sleepy than usual yesterday.

First time dog owner, do you take dogs to the vets for tummy bugs? (My paranoid mind is worried he’s eating something he shouldn’t have and I should take him even though I wouldn’t take my kids if they were in the same state!) x

Rice and chicken for 24 hours then see how he is. Plenty of water. I think too young to starve probably. If still poorly I'd take to vet. They may give you hideously expensive gastrointestinal food but ask if chicken and rice will be okay ( cheaper!). Dogs get tummy upsets , they eat stuff you don't see. But sometimes it's more than that. FWIW my 13 month old dog has had a terrible tummy all week and only just back to normal but he had an op this week and vet certain it was the stress to his system.

Sooverthemill Yes was going to offer some chicken later and if no better will take him tomorrow. Yes insured, I think we have a Vet phone line we can call as well included in the insurance for advise? Might ring them first x

Yes dogs get tummy bugs and lots of them.

However, there are a number of other things that also cause upset stomachs and can be intermittent. If insured then I would have no issue going to the vets for a check up where they can check temperature and have a feel about his stomach.

FYI our dog had numerous episodes of D&V which accumulated in one major episode which required admissions. In the end he was diagnosed with IBD as we had a history of many episodes which I knew wasn't just a normal upset stomach and now we get the right treatment straight away. I am not saying your dog has these symptoms but more of a trust your instinct and go to the vets if you suspect more than just an upset stomach.

Thanks bitey, yes will deffo get checked if still not right tomoz, (I’m a worrier and always worry it’s something more than a big!) he’s a terror for eating things he shouldn’t and drinking rank puddles and stagnant water so could be anything! He’s not been sick again, had one runny poo but that’s all. Seems himself and been drinking and generally causing puppy mayhem!

He made a fuss at his normal walk time and we went out and he was fine. Back to finding things to F up, decided to dismember a barbie today see pic! No wonder he’s got the shits 😂😂😂
