Hi

I’m helping a homeless man with his dog which has an abscess, I’ve taken him to a vet and he’s got antibiotics, but I’m not sure he’ll properly administer them. Is there an OTC cream which will help? Is Savlon or TCP appropriate?

An abscess won't be sorted out by anything topical, in my opinion. Definitely needs those antibiotics (savlon won't be effective nor tcp, which I would never try on an animal as the pain of putting that on an abscess/open wound would be immense). Is there any way you cpuld

Aargh! ...any way you could administer the a/bs? Poor dog.

Seems like he’s administering the a/bs OK, lump is subsiding. I’m keeping an eye on things as best I can.

Initially, I was a bit judgemental about his organisational skills but he seems to be being thorough.

He adores the dog and it’s generally very well cared for, my concern is that basic hygiene is not his forte.

I think I’ll just watch the situation and arrange another visit to the vet if necessary.
