AIBU- Sonic repellants?

So, my neighbour has a dog. It's a sheepdog and bored stupid. It is also aggressive. I cannot go into my garden without being snarled at and barked at. My kids are terrified of it as they cannot play for it head butting the fence (6 foot on our side but it's a three foot behind it so I think it could jump?). I'm loosing the will with the creature. I've been looking at sonic repellants just for when my kids are in the garden. Has anyone used one? Do they work?

Yes. People who frequent the doghouse are all frequent users of dog repellents

Where is the dog meant to go if such an item worked? Subject to deeply unpleasant/painful noise and unable to escape.... I know what I'd expect it to do if forced to endure such a thing: jump the fence in an attempt to escape. Then you would have a desperate and terrified dog in your garden.

Unless it is allowed to roam in and out of the garden at will? In which case, have you tried talking to your neighbour?

My neighbour has a horrid cockerpooey thing that is the same, growling, barking, lunging at every bloody noise.

Means I struggle to use the garden in the evening (my favourite time to relax and use it) because its barking wakes my 2 year old up and it really upsets my dog (a sheepdog) who is nervous around other dogs and gets really whiney and agitated and therefore can't use the garden either.

Most dogs of a decent size in good health can scale a 6 foot fence if determined enough, I'd add a trellis on top of the fence.

Both my children can hear those sonic things and find the noise really uncomfortable. So it might be worth checking to see if yours can hear them before you buy.

Yes I've tried talking to my neighbour which is oh so easy to do when she cannot control the dog. She has mobility issues and goodness knows why bought this puppy at Christmas. I feel sorry for it, but I fear more for my children. What I do know is if it does jump the fence into my garden is that I will not be held for my actions at to what happens to it. I believe it's a real threat to jump and I'd like to protect it and my kids. They should be allowed to play in their garden in peace, just like I don't allow them out all the time to let the dog have space. But when I can't even hang my washing out or sit peacefully without the kids making a noise for this snarling, then we have a problem.

HoHo, yes that was my concern- I don't want to be disrupting my children's hearing or that if the two children a couple of doors on from the dog.

If you honestly think you are likely to win against a determined vicious dog I'm afraid you are much mistaken.

Their reflexes are fast enough to bite you several times before you realise you've been bitten...

If you genuinely feel the dog is dangerous, your best bet is to record the aggressive behaviour (for evidence), put up trellis to increase the height and report the dog to the 101 police line and the dog warden as dangerous.
Also make sure you have an umbrella and pet corrector spray handy when in the garden as if it does manage to get in your garden and acts aggressively a burst of pet corrector or an umbrella opening will startle it enough to give you time to get away

I have a 5ft and one foot trellis, I didn't think I could go higher than 6 foot? Thank you, I will have a think how best to go about it. I need to do something before it grows some more.

I don't know what is legally allowed but I have a 6 foot fence and will be installing a 1 foot trellis topper and if I lived next door to a dog that I thought was dangerous and could access my garden I would take the risk and increase the height of the fence personally whether it was legal or not.

Can the dog see through the fence? If so I'd be putting up something more solid so it can't see through.

Sadly it sounds like an energetic young dog that's not being walked properly and is understandably going stir crazy for lack of stimulation.

Avocado, no it's can't see through- I don't know if that's a good or a bad thing? I genuinely do feel very sorry for it and angry with the neighbour for buying such a dog that she cannot give the time or energy too.

A sonic repellent definitely won’t work... the dog won’t be able to avoid the noise, so you’ll just be aggravating it.

And they’re horrible, they give me migraines.

Tbh, I’d go round and complain every time and make myself a bigger nuisance than the dog...
