Changing her food

At the vets a few weeks ago they said the food we were feeding her wasn't, in their opinion, nutritious enough so advised us to slowly swap her to another type. Went to Pets at Home and they talked me through various options and we settled on Wainwrights dry food as it comes in various flavours so hopefully she wouldn't get bored.

But despite transitioning her slowly she doesn't seem happy. Shes not the most enthusiastic eater sometimes anyway but is this just her getting used to something new? She was on Peta Puppy Dry which she ate fine but as an example they have 13% turkey meat and the Wainwrights food has 30% so nutritionally much better for her. Her poos aren't too bad, but she herself seems lethargic and just not happy.

She's a Grand Basset Griffen Vendéen and is 6 months old.

Hi ,wainwright's is better that Beta but 30% is still quite low .
Have you thought about ordering online ?

Millies Wolfheart is great,high meat content,grain free ,VAT free & free delivery .
Countryside mix is the variety recommended for pups as it has the correct amount of calcium,fat & protein levels for a growing pup ,it's 70% meat .

Have a look on All about dog food uk ,they rate all dog foods & list their ingredients so you've got all the information in one place .
Also ,might be worth adding a topping of a wet food , I use animonda sensitive from zooplus but their are lots of other high meat content grain free foods available now .

70% that's amazing !!! I feel awful that we've been getting her nutrition so wrong. She's clearly not thriving, her hair is thinning and for 6 months old she's not as energetic as I'd expect, though she's grown a lot lately so that may be taking it out of her? Pets at Home seemed to think 30% was good, now I'm cross I've spent almost a week transitioning her to put the poor thing through it again 😳 Agggh it's so confusing 🤦‍♀️ But thank you. Knowing there's much better than 30% out there is good 👍. This is her sitting by the window refusing to move until my DS (who is 8) gets home from school.

Definitely have a look on the website mentioned above. I feed around 60-70% meat content.

I'm so shocked at our breeder recommending the Beta now I know how shit it is .. no wonder she's not impressed with the Wainwrights either 🤦‍♀️

We had a Welsh Foxhound years ago ,he was adorable,especially after a bath as he went like crystal tips

Don't feel bad about the food ,the marketing is very clever and it's only fairly recently it's been more publicised ,so people are learning about how rubbish the industry is . I found out when our foxhound became ill ,he still sadly died aged 2 1/2 ,I spent months researching and trying to get him healthy.

You'll notice a difference in coat quality and poo very quickly with a good food.

The other fella is my Bailey boy,he was a sweetheart .

I can recommend millies wolfheart and also forthglade. Both do various flavours in kibble and wet.

For OP & also future reference ,puppies need a certain amount of protein,fat and in particular calcium ,so not all varieties of Millies will be suitable until about a year old depending on breed.
Countryside Mix is recommended but there are others suitable in the range. Also ,Millies have nutritionists available to give advice.
