What breed is this puppy?

Apologies for a second thread (first was for advice) I didn't want the pics getting lost mid thread.

We've been told this lovely pup (half way through adoption) is 6-7 months and a Lurcher. I'm wondering if she's pure greyhound (she's almost identical to a retired racer I fostered in 2017) or if anyone can see another breed in her?

What do you think?

I'm not an expert, but if I saw her in the park I'd assume full greyhound.

Hopefully CMOT will be along soon...

A lurcher is a cross between something with a greyhound. If they say it’s a lurcher it probably is.

Lurcher crosses with a greyhound. We had our bundle of fun dna tested and got a pleasant surprise, only 1 breed that we expected but some mumsnetters guessed correct before the results came through. Used wisdom panel.

I'm thinking if she isn't pure grey then she's more likely to be a Longdog than a Lurcher.

This is mine, she came back as a Belgian malinois crossed with a whippet , with a splash of greyhound and staffie!

redwoodmazza Yes most people refer to any grey x as a Lurcher but technically a grey x with another sighthound is a Longdog!

I'd love to pin down Longdog, Lurcher or pure grey as training would differ slightly depending on breed.

I'd guess greyhound / border collie? Definitely not pure greyhound but maybe 3/4 and 1/4 collie, she's lovely!

Aaah, she's lovely! I'm a complete sucker for a shiny black pointy! I'd say that she is a long dog - mostly greyhound with a splash of something else. But from a rescue perspective, unless we know absolutely for sure (ie, dog has been relinquished, and was from a breeder before) what the parentage is we never say that a dog is def anything even if we are pretty sure.

BTW, dried sprats are excellent training treats, and the fish oils will keep her coat shiny. My dogs and pups adore them

Training wise, what is the best method of training reliable recall for a Longdog? With that much grey in her she's going to need to be off lead for runs.

I'll have a Google too but experience would be really appreciated.

I think longdog too, perhaps a bit of saluki. She's got a very long pointy nose even by greyhound standards (I mean that in a good way, she's beautiful!) and her ears looked like they might be a bit feathery. Whatever she is she's lovely Smile

Todayis have a look online for local secure dog parks. There is one near us that charges £10 ph to let you dog run about in a secure fenced off field. Also there's a Facebook page , seen other posters mention it, I'm not on Facebook. We had a long line for training at first, but we're lucky that as she had separation issues her recall was ok, saying that sometimes it can be a bit hit and miss especially when kids on scooters so I'm very aware of my surroundings when I let her off. And god can she run! Hussein Bolt would have problems catching her! 😀

@drinkswineoutofamug I have one that's 20 mins drive away, but costs £15 an hour.

I used it for our fostered Grey's, but it'd be too expensive to use really frequently.

The reason I'm adopting a grey x rather than a pure grey was because I wanted trainability/reliable recall so I didn't have to rely on paying for secure dog parks. Ah!

She’s lovely and pointy , with regards to training get her a properly fitted harness and a longline and see how you get on , I wouldn’t be walking her in that type of collar shown in the picture .
