Quick help needed

I have a 3year old collie Cross. He is fairly lively and can be difficult. Since I got in from work he's barked and whined and won't settle. He keeps growing at me. Not sure what's wrong. He's had two walks today and been well looked after etc

Two thoughts.

1. He's in pain and needs to see the vet.

1. He's over stimulated and needs to calm down. My cocker takes himself into another room and runs about growling and rubbing himself on the rug when he's like that.
