Rudest things said about your dog?

Attended a family party today. The host (we're very close) adores DDog and very much wanted him to come - and he behaved pretty much impeccably. Another guest is known to dislike dogs. I had stage whispered comments all afternoon

"oh, why did they bring that thing with them, I thought they'd have left it at home"
"I don't think dogs should be where food is, it's not hygienic"
Calling DDog "it" not "he"
"Oh, it's a Jack Russell, that's why it's nasty"
"Our bags have been on the floor, we'll have to disinfect them when we get home"
"Why did he just shake? He probably has fleas"
"I don't like it when people have dogs but don't train them" (cue me demonstrating a variety of complicated tricks DDog can perform)
The guest was also mortally offended when DDog asked her for a game of fetch by giving her his favourite toy Hmm

I've spent all bloody day biting my lip Angry and if there had been one more comment I would have said something. Anyone else had people be incredibly rude about their DDog?

God I say most of them myself.

Some people just don't like dogs.

Good job you didn't put this in AIBU, OP.😁

When I was learning to use clippers our vet said "God! Who did that haircut? I'd ask for my money back if I was you" Blush

A teenage girl burst out laughing and said to her friends "look at that ugly dog!" Angry

I said "he probably thinks you're really ugly too". She was Shock

He's a Scottie so no NOT an ugly dog at all! 😤

Comment "oooooh I bet he's a handful ....I saw him on the beach"

About: My first GSD, almost completely black with deep amber eyes and ears like satellite dishes, he was almost 50kg and burly too

Place:at the beach carpark with my 7 year old DS, we were walking back to the car, child under CLOSE supervision from said dog walking to heel ensuring child would not escape!
They had been running along the beach together!

Anyone with a GSD and a running child will know how this goes! Child runs, dog runs along side, dog heads child off if child is getting Too Far Away From The GrownUps in the dog's opinion, child and dog run back to parent!

Comment was given by a man with a spaniel on a extending lead who was totally ignoring its owner and had barked at the top of its voice the entire length of the beach and back, ravelling the man up with itself and sundry other dogwalkers and was basically refusing to get into the car or to allow itself to be picked up

I just raised an eyebrow, looked pointedly at the out of control spaniel and we all got into the car!

Oo @pigsDOfly do you have a Sheltie. That's what we had when I was a teenager. Mental and gorgeous ❤️

Pandoraslastchance · 12/05/2019 13:34

My mother is always rude about my Jack Russel pup. He is 5 months so he still has some work to do with his commands but generally he is a good boy. She looks down on him as he isn't a pedigree.

Hit post too early.

His name is Lord Fred and he is marvelous with the children.

pigsDOfly · 12/05/2019 14:53

MsMarvellous No not a Sheltie. She's classed as a Pomeranian but she's a bit bigger than the usual pom and doesn't have a squashed in face so looks a like a small Spitz, which, of course, is what a pom is really.

Shelties are gorgeous.

Another dog walker in the park looked at my mini labradoodle and said ‘she has an unusually small head’ I said ‘are you saying she’s fat?’ She doesn’t and she isn’t. But she does suffer from alopecia and while she has a lot of hair on her legs hardly any on her back. He made no comment about that however.

wheelwarrior · 12/05/2019 18:21

Aw he a lab so means he going to get fat especially as he won't get long walks with you like that (am in wheelchair

Death glare and I said oh am confused as I figure average of 14 -18 miles a day is good going
