Any Lhasa Apso owners?

Hi

We are currently researching different breeds and someone has mentioned a Lhasa Apso. I was wondering if anyone had any advice about them?

From what I've read they can be difficult to train - I would want a dog that can follow basic commands like sit, come back when off lead etc. Does this sound like a Lhasa Apso? I realise all dogs are different but if we attended training is it something that could be taught?

Any other traits of a Lhasa? Are they a good family dog?

I had one when I was growing up.
He wasn’t exactly trained so didn’t follow many commands but I expect if you kept at they would. He wasn’t very bright!
However he was exceptionally good natured, got on well with cats and was very happy walking on the lead. He came pretty much every where with us.

My dad and one..called Precious..and she was indeed.
She was a fabulous lap dog and adored my dad and was the reason he kept going when my step-mum sadly died unexpectedly. She walked nicely on a lead but I never saw her off lead.

She was a one person dog tho, and was very jealous whenever I visited... would pee on the bed I stayed in, every time! She tolerated me at best!

She needed regular grooming and trips to be clipped (kept her short).
She was a rescue so possibly her guarding dad was because of her past but overall a nice dog if we overlook the peeing on my bed and glaring at me

Mine will come if you command her and walks on the lead fine. She is good with people but can be VERY defensive and aggressive around other dogs (large dogs in particular ).

Ours has a wonderful temperament with the children.
Easy to train and very loyal.
Our is okay off lead, listens to commands but can be skittish at night time. Not sure if that is the breed or just our wee one.

This is my wee pixie. The most stubborn dog ever but so loving. She loves children and other dogs. She's not very well trained but that's probably our fault more than ours. She loves being with us and will follow you around the house and loves lying cuddled up on you. I wouldn't be without her.

Ours is a cross with a shitzu. The softest dog ever, loves all dogs and humans! Has been trained to sit, fetch , wait but recall not the best so tend to only let him off lead when it's very quiet. He still is quite young though and now he prefers to sniff on walks rather than run to other people or dogs so think that will improve.as he ages. Grooming isn't difficult and their fur hardly sheds. So glad we got him, a real family dog.

Oh, he does do a mad dog howling session for about 15 minutes in the evening!

Mine is a shih tzu cross too. She is a very loyal dog and ran away before I took her training at about 1 Yr old.
She took to the training very well and now will come straight away when called.
One thing though I think they're difficult to toilet train although that may be the shih tzu part as I have another full breed shih tzu and she was the same.
She can be stubborn and hates going outside and gets a bit aggressive but I don't let her get the better of me.

Oh and she's always been fantastic with my children no aggression. Loves it when strangers come up and fuss her.
She just doesn't like going out when it's cold. Didn't want to give you the wrong impression

Ours was quick to toilet train and walks and going outside are his daily highlight. The other good thing is he can gave a 20 minute walk or a 1 hour plus and is happy with both.I would definitely reccomend these breeds as a first time dog owner. It's as though we've always had him

We had a lhasa who we got as a 2 year old rescue. He had terrible separation anxiety to the point where we could not leave him at all or he'd injure himself. Prob just this particular dog and not a breed trait though I'm not 100%sure!
