Walking dog with pram

I have a 2 year old cocker spaniel who is as daft as a brush I’m due my first baby in a few weeks. How on earth do people walk the dog and push the pram at the same time? Can someone please explain 😂 thanks! And happy Easter 🥰

Use a sling! I also have a working cocker and a sling makes it much easier. We tend to go mostly offlead places so pram is possible but being handsfree is much easier for picking up poop, holding the lead, etc.

Get an Out n About Nipper 360 Buggy and a head collar on the dog if it pulls.

I used a sling (I've got a bad back but was totally fine until she was about 4 months, ok after that if I knew she would nap rather than wriggle).

After that I had to train the dog to walk beside the buggy, but it was still a bit rubbish for getting around so we tried to walk dogs without baby until she could walk too.

FIL (the only one without a bad back) could carry DD in the sling, the later in a backpack carrier, until she was 2 and up for walking longer distances.

I'm not keen on the use of slings, bad for baby's hips, legs splayed wide like a frog can't be good for them but more so because of the danger if you tripped and fell whilst out walking.

Each to their own though.

I find it not easy you need a one handle pram. Or go to a park where you can drive and then dog can be off lead assuming they are ok off the lead. Xxx

You have two options, either baby in sling or train the dog not to pull.

I have a normal lead (not extender) then a hook on the pram which I put the lead on. Or I just have my hand through the loop of the lead.

My dogs a min poodle so simular size. He walks well next to the pram without much training because if he mesess around he gets run over (by accident).

CallMeRachel, ever heard of a Pavlik Harness? The thing they use to fix developmental dysplasia of the hips...?

OP - if you go for a sling, which I would also highly recommend for dog walking (did two years of it before DD decided it wasn’t on any more, but now end up carrying her half the time anyway 🙄) - PLEASE go for one with a hip-healthy, ‘frog leg’ position which carries baby high on your chest, like an ergobaby, lillebaby, connecta, boba etc, and not an old style babybjorn etc with dangly legs and baby squashed in to you somewhere around your navel... Have a read of the TICKS criteria for baby carriers.

I had a very reactive JRT when DS was born. It was hell. I used a carrier a few times but I avoided the pram!

I walked my two dogs be either putting DD in a carrier and holding one dog in each hand, or having them on a split lead.
When she was in her pram they just used to walk next to the pram. They quickly learned not to go near the wheels.

BTW - being scared to walk with your baby in a carrier in case you fall over?
Do you never carry them anywhere?
What if you push a pram and fall over and it goes in the road?
