Puppy Ear Infection

Puppy has ear infection. I am feeling guilty, I don’t think I’ve been as vigilant as I should have been, in cleaning and checking puppy’s ears.

Took her to the groomer and she suspected ear infection. (No signs from pup of scratching or discomfort).

Vet confirmed fungal infection. So puppy now has cleanish ears and drops. Administering them is fun, even in a small breed!

So going forward how often do you clean your dog’s ears and what do you use?

Big, floppy poodle ears?

I have never cleaned my dogs ears and he's a spaniel. I think it's probably one of those things that it's pot luck on whether your dog is susceptible or not (we suffer lots with allergies instead) so don't feel guilty.

I have 2 small breed dogs, one has never had an issue with her ears, the other one seems to have one every 5 minutes! I have an ear cleaning solution from the vet and that goes in every day or two and she shakes and rubs and then I wipe the excess that comes out away. She seems to produce more wax than the other dog. Now you know you can keep an eye on it.

The one good thing about it happening early is she will get used to me fiddling with her ears and think it’s normal, whereas older dog might be more resistant.

If got those finger wipe things. Clean ears every so often with them and groomer keeps inner ear shorter. X
