Dog sick a few hours after working tablet.

Hi all, I have a 2 year old jack Russell she’s quite a petite little thing. She has been wormed regularly with drontal since she was tiny. Never had any issues until the last 2 occasions I wormed her. Last time she was sick at least 3 hours after the tablet. I have given it to her, been in for 3 hours after she took it, went out for 2 hours and came home to sick so about 3-5 hours afterwards. Didn’t think much of it. She’s not a big eater so I was thinking it might of been because she hadn’t eat much.

Recently I used drontal again and she was sick again a few hours aftwards. (Vomited twice).

Obviously I’ll be changing the tablets she has but any idea why she’s being sick with a tablet she’s been fine with loads before?

She doesn’t have any signs of worms or anything either. I just worm her every 2-3 months. She is fine in herself. 🤔

Mine started being sick with Drontal too, all 3, very expensive for several piles of sick, one under the bed.

I don't use it now.

My dog was either sick or had the runs after taking drontal. Not everytime but enough for us not to use it anymore.

It may be worth considering worm counting - worm count here

Drontal does this to mine too. However, I think it's a good one, although Cestem and Termaworm are similar (cover same worms) and don't make mine throw up. I avoid meal times by as many hours as possible. Ensure you don't give her too much.

Worm counts are brilliant, we use them for the horses, but tapeworm eggs don't show up in them. There's a saliva test for it, dunno if there's a dog version.

All worms are covered in a dog wormcount including lungworm, tapeworm -it is great that they can determine the type of tapeworm

Tapeworm eggs can't be detected in a fecal sample in horses. Is it different for dogs? I don't see how? I know the segments can be seen, but not the actual eggs.

We had the same issue. I have been using Drontal on all my dogs for years and years. Our newest addition, a terrier cross, is sick after every dose though. I just make sure to keep it well away from meal times and that solved it. Usually he has 3 meals a day but on a Drontal day he has breakfast, Drontal early afternoon and then dinner... so leaving that food gap a good few hours either side of the Drontal seemed to stop him throwing it back up.

I've got 2 labradors. One is fine on Drontal. The younger one is sick every time. She's on something different now.

Another one here. Think Drontal recently (in the past year or so) changed the pill. They now claim to have some extra benefits etc. Since then, dog vomits it out. Wish they would go back to the previous formula...
