Having our beautiful boy PTS tomorrow
22
MaitlandGirl · 08/04/2019 06:46
Bear (aka Stupid) our beautiful pit bull cross was diagnosed with sinus cancer a couple of weeks ago and we’ve made the decision to have him pts tomorrow. He’s such a gorgeous boy, totally stupid (hence the name!) but I think he’s at the stage where he’s had enough and he’s starting to struggle.
He lives with my in-laws (he’s got the big dog bark and they are very rural so need the security and company) and he’s gone downhill a lot since Friday. We’ve just come back from theirs (we’re in NSW so it’s Monday afternoon) and he’s had enough.
He’s only 8 and he’s ‘that dog’ for me - the one that every other dog is always compared to.
We knew it was coming but it’s awful.

Bear, you are a handsome lad 💙
This is the worst part of being a doggy person, the letting them go. I lost one of my staffies to cancer last year at only 7, my decision was to let her go before she deteriorated too much and to remember her as the fiesty cheeky bugger she was.
If there is no hope of treatment giving him a good standard of life and he's going downhill it is the right thing to let him go.
I'll be thinking of you all and the lovely Bear xxx

Gorgeous handsome bear.
It is the last and most compassionate and kind thing you can do for him. It is so hard to be human sometimes.
Will be thinking of you all

I don't know what to say other than I'm thinking of you. It's such a heartbreaking situation to be in. I'm sure he knows how loved he is and I bet he has had a truly happy life.
Cuddle him tight when you're saying goodbye. As much for you as for him xx

for you both xxx

So sorry, OP. We went through the same thing with our lovely (naughty) little staff/jack russell cross last summer and still miss her every day. All anyone can do in these situations I suppose is be thankful for the time you’ve had with your beloved pet - and relieved that their suffering is coming to an end. Your boy is gorgeous.

So sorry OP, Bear is absolutely gorgeous.
We lost our little cocker spaniel to cancer at 8, rather say goodbye a day or so too early than a second too late I always say.
Sleep tight Bear x

He's really sick and there's definitely isn't any alternative but I wish there was. He's an RSPCA dog that was seized at 3 weeks old along with his 2 siblings - the mother was dead in the crate with them and he got a bit squished so she said got mild brain damage. Poor sod, took him 6mths to learn him name then we decided to use a nickname instead! No wonder the poor dog spent most of his life confused lol
He high fives, shakes paws, rolls over, plays dead and gives great hugs but today he developed a head tilt and his eyes are turning out towards the base of his ears and couldn't coordinate enough to high five. Unfortunately with sinus cancer it's too late once the symptoms really show so we knew this was going to happen sooner, rather than later.
He had 2 McDonald's cheeseburgers for lunch, and he's having his favourite human food of Vegemite on toast and a bowl of Nutrigrain for his dinner, then a potato pie from the bakers for his lunch.
His favourite vet nurse is working tomorrow so at least he won't be scared going in. He always goes looking for her when he goes to the vets and gets all droopy if she's not there, but that's probably because she empties her entire liver treat jar for him as she loves his comedy eyebrows!

Handsome boy 💙
So sorry to hear this
We had our girl pts a couple of weeks ago at 5yo due to cancer. It’s devastating. I must agree with the cuddles. I’m so very glad I took time to sink my face into her beautiful, furry neck and feel her heat and smell her. I can still sense it now she’s gone and it’s so comforting.
I don’t think anything can prepare you for the moment they leave but remembering afterwards all the positives helped. You’re boy sounds to have had a lovely, fun life. You are putting him before you, true love. You got to experience his awesome love. To keep him would mean a poor and diminishing quality of life for him. Remember the funny things and talk about them. I’m so sorry for you
That’s a brilliant picture btw
Jenda · 08/04/2019 14:44
I'm sorry, he is gorgeous and sounds like such a brilliant dog. I hope it goes as well as it can, thinking of you and Bear
Bluffinwithmymuffin · 09/04/2019 09:01
Thinking of you today, OP
MaitlandGirl · 09/04/2019 11:04
Thank you everyone - it’s a horrible thing to say but it really helps knowing others know how it feels.
He’s gone :( it was all very calm and peaceful and incredibly dignified. Our vets are a livestock practice (as well as small animal) so he had a chat with a baby alpaca and a calf before he fell asleep under his favourite tree in the car park. He had a stroke in the early hours of this morning and was too unsteady on his feet for the tiled floors so when he plonked himself down in the sun by his tree it felt as if he’d chosen his spot.
I’m going to miss my beautiful boy :(

Rest easy handsome lad xx
ABitOTT · 09/04/2019 23:15
Rest well dear Bear.
I know your sorrow right now must be insurmountable, but you did the very best for Bear so he wouldn't suffer. I've been in your shoes & I send my love to you
catzrulz · 09/04/2019 23:54
Oh OP, I'm so sorry, he sounds a lovely boy. I'm sitting in tears here, I'm sure he chose his spot to fall asleep.
Sometimes the right people are just chosen for animals and you were for your bear.
You know you've made the right decision and he did too. Enjoy your memories of him 💐
TheGrey1houndSpeaks · 09/04/2019 23:55
Oh, what a beauty. I’m so sorry
spiderlight · 10/04/2019 10:59
So sorry. He was clearly a wonderful dog. It's always awful, but when the truly special ones go, there's no pain quite like it.
Idlikeabunchofbananasplease · 12/04/2019 18:48
I'm so sorry, sending you lots of love and hugs, such a difficult decision but the right one. Run free over the rainbow bridge Bear RIP
