Puppy conjunctivitis?

My 5 month old pup has a red eye and very weepy (yellow) this morning was closed shut with goop looks the same as when one of the kids gets conjunctivitis. I think I know the answer but is it a vet trip or will it clear itself? Another FB group I’m on suggested bathing in cold tea? ANy vets, can I buy anything to help or will I have to go to the vets for prescription? Thanks x

You will need to go to the vets for a prescription.

Go to the vets. Conjunctivitis can cause complications such as eye ulcers if the dog attempts to scratch etc. Battendog had it quite a few times until I had his mouth folds reduced (springer with deep folds along his bottom jaw) and this seems to have cured the eyes as well as his mouth. Something to think about if this might be the same for yours.

In the meantime, it's important to see the vet. If only so they can rule out damage to the eyeball (they use a dye to see).

Go to the vet, puppy will scratch and be uncomfortable and possibly distressed- conjunctivitis is contagious I think and needs treated properly so other dogs don’t catch it

How did you get on? I've noticed my 4 month old puppy looks like he has conjunctivitis this afternoon. I've cleaned it with cooled boiled water like I did when my dd used to get it. Looks like we'll be at the vet tomorrow.

Yes trip to the vets and eye drops. Your puppy may need a cone to stop it scratching and damaging the eye.

I hope your pup is all better. He's not bothered, hasn't tried to scratch it but his eye definitely looks red and it was a little gunky. I'll see how it is in the morning poor baby. Sad

Boatsnack3 I tried the tea tip over the weekend and it totally cleared it up! Made black tea and left to soak and cool, used cotton wool to dip in and clean a few times a day and cleared up by monday! Amazing! Hope your pup is ok x

I wish I had read this before I took him to the vet this morning I could have saved myself £50 He's got some eye drops, definitely feeling sorry for himself now
