Where To Sleep?

we are getting a Lab pup next month. I took the cat for its jabs last week and mentioned to the vet about puppy and general chit chat. I said I thought we might put pup in conservatory at night and if we pop out as it's a tiled floor and 'safe' from cables, and furniture to chew.
There's a radiator in there but it is colder than the house. Vet said that would be fine.
A friend has just told me it's cruel and will report me to RSPCA
Am I wrong to keep pup there at night? we have a spare bedroom which is the other alternative but it's carpeted

It very much depends on the temperature . For example if you go out in the summer it will probably be too hot to leave a dog in it . My dsis has a heated conservatory and her house cat used to sleep in there all night through choice as it was always open to the rest of the house , however she did keep the heating on all night for him . It would have been too cold if the heating wasn’t on .

Have you thought about using a crate?

At least that way your dog has a safe space and it doesn't matter what room you are using.

Our pup sleeps in the kitchen, she started off in a crate but kept whimpering to get to our other dog so they've got a massive bed they share. We've taken out anything chewable or attractive, and leave her lots of toys out across the floor to entertain her if we pop out.

Your conservatory sounds fine. I'd put a big crate in there with plenty of snuggly bedding and a blanket cover to keep draughts out, but leave crate door open.

Your friend can report you to the RSPCA as much as she likes. They will fall over laughing!

Sounds fine. Labs are particularly well insulated but in summer months it might be too hot.

If your friend tried to report you for cruelty they would laugh at them.

Bloody ridiculous and honestly they wouldn't remain a 'friend' if they were that stupid and vindictive.

We have 'converted' our conservatory/play room into our Labrador puppies 'home'. He has a crate to sleep in and a radiator to keep it warm. He was chewing the corners of the window sills in there so have had to block them off. It is also a useful space for him to calm in if exciting visitors are round and somewhere safe when we are eating. However it is far too warm when the sun is out for any length of time, even with all the windows open and blinds down. On those days we use the kitchen with a stair gate. I thought we had actually spoilt our Labrador as he has his own room and our ds have to share!!!

To be honest it doesn't actually get that hot in the summer, it's north facing we is why we never really use it!

As long as it doesn't get too hot/cold I don't see the issue - it's no different to them sleeping in the kitchen or utility room!
