French bulldog with terrible farts - what food is best?

We have a male french bulldog who is 1.5. We have rehomed him and we don't know what he was fed on previously. We've had him since June and have tried him on a few different foods but none seem to make a difference to the room clearing farts.

We've had frenchies before and are aware of how stinky they are, but this is next level. The whole of downstairs smells like there's a stray pile of poo somewhere (there isn't!). He's been to the vets (who recommended chappy - it made it worse) and is medically fine.

I know they smell. But this is HORRIFIC! Please help!

I have two french bulldogs - their farts used to be TERRIBLE until I started feeding them raw food. Now they hardly ever fart, poo only twice a day and their poos don't really smell either. Would never switch from raw now.

Yep, raw feeding stopped the farting and stinking poo here. Our dogs almost never fart.

My dog wasn't the worst farter, but he had a very irritable digestive system. He was on a vet recommended diet for about a year, which helped but didn't fix it completely. I tried a few different grain-free, egg-free brands and settled on Carnilove which has calmed everything down, including the hell-mouth smelling farts.

He's currently on Burns sensitive.

Try the website linked on here. Burns sensitive is quite low depending on which one (2.8 to 3.6) and looks like it contains grains. Try a higher quality one without grains and more meat (that website tells you the ingredients so you can see the meat content. For reference I feed wet containing 70% names meat)

Raw. There are raw feeding groups on Facebook devoted to this sort of thing, you'll find all the info there.

Not the same I know but we have a very very stinky cat. If we fed her anything but James wellbeloved grain free she would literally stink the house out. I would definitely recommend a grain free food. Or what about a breed specific food??

Raw feed. I use Bella and duke and its amazing quality and no farts!

Burgess Superdog Sensitive cured my grey's eye-watering farts in the space of about five hours. It comes in salmon and rice or lamb and rice and is gluten free.

definitely a case of trying different things. My lab is even sensitive to different flavours! He is on wainwrights salmon and potato and never farts, plus his coat is beautiful (everyone comments on how shiny it is). I decided as he was so good on this I would get some duck and rice (same brand) and even though I introduced it slowly it made him super smelly, so salmon and potato for us.

With French bulldogs ,most of them are grain intolerant & a lot are sensitive to chicken too .
They do better on a high meat content food 70/30 upwards .
All about dog food site is brilliant as a pp pointed out .

One thing I will say is that I use raw too but only complete & then a big bone occasionally just for chewing & teeth cleaning .
Frenchies tend to gulp things down & will choke themselves so you must be careful if they have bones.

We gave our dog Tum's the vet said they were fine (going back 20 years so they might have changed the recipe) they settled her gas right down on more stench arse

Nature's Menu is good for raw feeding.

Otherwise you can try charcoal biscuits to try and absorb any excess gas. Pets at home stock some online I believe.
