Countdown has begun! (With pics)

2 weeks until we collect this little bundle of loveliness.

Still to do:

Collect crate from my dad's (he stored it for us when our last boy decided the sofa was king - won't be making that mistake again!)

Double check that the garden fence is puppy proof

Go shopping with DS for fun things like bed, toys etc

Have a good cry about our old dog and try not to feel guilty for replacing him.

Get lots of sleep....am I forgetting anything?!

Nope.

That puppy is not the cutest thing I have seen all day and I am not considering swapping Battendog for one.

I give it less than a week before the crate is back at your dads and the pups snoring away on the sofa...

Get insurance quotes and decide which you want to go with now so all you need to do is activate it once the free insurance from the breeder runs out.

Find a decent puppy class and get him booked in for when he's old enough. Good ones don't have that many spaces and tend to book up quickly.

Top up on cleaning supplies and towels for little accidents.

Work out how you will transport home. My take on this is to be careful transporting Puppy home in the crate that you plan to use at home.

IMO that first car journey alone can be a bit traumatic for a Puppy. Putting them in their home crate can become the start of bad associations with that crate. I've seen it so many times- Puppy has a difficult journey, recovers once home, avoids crate as it didn't enjoy being in it last time.

I totally accept though that Puppy needs to be transported in a safe way. It's a bit of a conundrum!

Startingafresh- I am 100% decided I am transporting him back on my knee with DP driving.

We crates our last dog when we brought him home as a puppy and he HATED it. He was never ok in the car after that to the extent that he once broke his way through a metal dog guard while we were on the motorway back from holiday. I'm not risking starting bad associations like that again.

I know safety is a concern and some people will have brought puppies home in crates with no issue, but I have my reasons.

Battendog came home on a lap and then asleep in the footwell with some old towels. It was a 2.5 hr, very easy journey and he has always been brilliant in the car - a miracle because many other things have taken a loooong time to get him used to.

If I were brave enough to get another puppy, I would have no hesitation in doing the same thing again.

We bought our puppy home last night. So far so good. She's using puppy pads straight away. Our older dog took a while to accept her but that seems to be going well... now to crack this sleep malarkey🙈

Bought ours home today, border collie, she's finding her feet now, I'm shattered due to dd2 waking up at 5.30 so tonight should be fun

My advice would be to start as you mean to go on. So if you don't want the dog in bedrooms, start off sleeping with them downstairs and retreat etc.

And get them used to being alone early on. We didn't do this with ours as we didn't need to leave him right away and it made it harder in the long run!

Dh has named her Misstery, we put our dog to sleep beginning of December and her name sounds the same as his, going to get some sleep now while she is lol. We can get some nicknames from that x

We have survived the night, a couple of accidents which I was expecting, but no whining at all, she slept for quite alot of it, so today is to get her peeing on the mats everytime if possibly can, she done 2 yesterday. Going to stock up some more toys and a bed for her today x
