Our 11 week old puppy couldn't settle at all until we got a crate, now if she's in her crate she's asleep.

She can be running around causing chaos and then if you put her in her crate in about 5 minutes she's asleep. we had her in a big crate but she was weeing in it so we got one that just fits her bed and now she wakes up and cries to be taken out if she needs to go.

Mainly my worry is; is she happy in her crate and that's why she's sleeping? Or is it just that she's bored and is sleeping? I had her in the car today for 2 hours in her crate and she was asleep or silent and chewing for the whole time until I pulled up at services let her out for a wee and then put her back in and she went back to sleep.

Completely normal. Is her safe place and she’s happy there so sleeps. Our dog hated his cage and literally screamed and whaled until we let him out. It shows she’s happy. Think of it like her little bedroom for some space of her own

@Cranleighbud thank you that's really helpful

That looks like a counterfeit. All the rage these days

NewYoiker · 19/01/2019 14:03

@TheCounter what's counterfeit? The puppy or the crate?

the picture appears to be some kind of duck soft toy in a basket in a cage.

OP is that a comfort toy for your pup?

I had to really squint to see the puppy Grin. Totally normal!

Ezzie29 · 19/01/2019 14:20

My dog absolutely loved his crate, we had a blanket over it for extra warmth and he would happily take himself off into it whenever he wanted a sleep or if he felt we were being too noisy for his liking! When he got older and my dad passed away he was a bit more fussy so we had to stop using it but he had it until he was about 5.

NewYoiker · 19/01/2019 14:24

@disneyspendingmoney yeah she's next to the duck. She dragged it in there herself fell asleep next to it then tried to give it a lobotomy Grin

Oh doesn’t she look comfortable

Little shit used to like her crate. She had a hooded bed and would sleep in there every time.

She doesn’t use it at all now. In fact neither of mine do. It just sits in the living room. However I leave it in just in case

TheCounter · 19/01/2019 14:45

I was referring to the stuffed duck.
Just having a giggle at the thought of someone getting one, sticking it in a cage and thinking it was a puppy.(kinda guessed there was a real one underneath)

BiteyShark · 19/01/2019 14:48

I do love to see dogs sleeping on their backs. Such a sign of security.

Totally normal to sleep a lot and clearly is happy in her crate.

Pup looks far too relaxed to be anything other than completely at ease in their btw.
Mines adopted that position too in her cage. As time goes by though the novelty will wear off. I left the door open and let her choose when she was old enough and when she eventually stopped using it I was glad to see the back of it. Was a bit of an eyesore.
