Would you buy puppies from brother/sister parents?

Never posted here before so please be kind.

My sister has cockerpoos. A brother and sister.

She’s just had another litter of 8 puppies and is looking to sell them for megabucks.

Would you buy one based on their genes?

is this actually illegal?
it happens with rabbits/guineapigs, i dont think anyone cares

WatcherOfTheNight · 15/01/2019 07:02

Please op ,if you can do nothing else ,get her to take this new litter to the vet for a check up ,no puppies should be left to die like that ,it's barbaric

missmouse101 · 15/01/2019 08:09

@horacecope 'the reactions here are very full on' for extremely good reason. This person has no care at all about the welfare of her dogs or the puppies. She is only interested in making money. What she is doing is completely wrong.

WatcherOfTheNight · 15/01/2019 08:18

2 newborn puppies starving to death ,without vet treatment & a third possibly the same .
These puppies may have survived, they had no chance in these circumstances, that's why people are full on ,there is no need for it ,it's unnecessary suffering.

ColdCottage......don’t call troll.

I’ve been here 16 years.
It’s true.

Believe me, if I was a troll, I would come up with a better story than this.

Calzone has been here ages !

Orchidflower1 · 15/01/2019 08:41

RSPCA/ hmrc/ local training standards ~ these call all receive annonymous tip offs.

IF YOU DO NOTHING OP- KNOWING WHAT YOU KNOW YOU ARE ASSISTING THIS!

You know your ds is going to do this again don’t you. Tell her how it is.

HoraceCope · 15/01/2019 08:46

You are getting hyped about breeding from brothers and sisters.

WatcherOfTheNight · 15/01/2019 08:51

No @HoraceCope ,it's a lot more than that .

Brother & sister with no screening for genetic defects,no vet care & 3 dead puppies ,2 at least that starved to death.
Do you think that's ok ?

XmasPostmanBos · 15/01/2019 08:51

Funnily enough this post was right under one about Game of Thrones. Prince Joffrey I will say no more.

HoraceCope · 15/01/2019 08:53

15 shocked posts before mention of two dying.
anyway, you are entitled to your thoughts.

HoraceCope · 15/01/2019 08:54

I am not arguing, just surprised at the hype

Racecardriver · 15/01/2019 08:55

This is just awful.

WatcherOfTheNight · 15/01/2019 08:57

It's not hype in my opinion,no one should breed siblings like this ,it's a very outdated practice especially for a cross breed of this type .

Op asked if we would buy in these circumstances, most dog owners would not & for good reason .

YogaWannabe · 15/01/2019 09:00

Please report her OP

pandechocolate · 15/01/2019 09:06

Jesus christ.

I'd report her to the Local Authority, personally.
She is backyard breeding with clearly no knowledge about health testing, the effects of inbreeding, and sounds more interested in money making than the welfare of her dogs.

Whitney168 · 15/01/2019 09:06

Dear lord please say you’ve reported her.

If you don’t you’re complicit and allowing her to do it again. Just a thought.

Reported her to who? Make no mistake, I think it's vile, but it's not illegal. I don't suppose she's idiotic enough to tell the buyers they're brother and sister either, and even if she was loads of them would probably think it was cute, sigh.

This will be the reality of lots of people who think they've bought unregistered dogs of any breed/not of any breed from 'pet breeders' and from puppy farms.

Still, everyone thinks KC breeders who have to maintain records are the devil LOL.

GlasgowWorrier · 15/01/2019 09:07

15 shocked posts before mention of two dying. anyway, you are entitled to your thoughts.

Don't be obtuse. The OP didn't mention the dead puppies until her own 3rd post, and then there was instant reaction to it.

pandechocolate · 15/01/2019 09:08

The thing is, with breeds like pugs you know there is going to be some level (not to the point of brother/sister) of inbreeding. That's one of the many reasons I don't agree with flat faced breeds or their breed standards.

But to interbreed two cockerpoos. A cross breed to start with. Why?!

pandechocolate · 15/01/2019 09:10

It actually is. She is planning on selling all of the puppies.

A breeding licence will be required for anyone breeding three or more litters and selling at least one puppy in a 12 month period. This is a reduction from the previous litter test of five or more litters.

I have quoted the above from here -
www.thekennelclub.org.uk/press-releases/2018/september/changes-to-breeding-regulations-in-england/

GlasgowWorrier · 15/01/2019 09:10

This is actually why backyard breeders who give potential buyers a spiel about 'how you can see mum and dad here at home' aren't necessarily showing you something good - a responsible breeder will health test their own dog and choose a sire to avoid any medical issues even if it means travelling some distance for the mating, not just the most convenient entire male.

Whitney168 · 15/01/2019 09:14

Well pandechocolate, that could indeed be an issue for her, but until she advertises them it's not - and if she has friends who are prepared to give her money for her cute fluffy puppies without advertising it won't be anyway.

The new regulations are a complete lottery as every Council in England seems to be interpreting them in a different way. Some are, indeed, insisting on a licence for anyone selling a single puppy, others are telling breeders in writing that they do not require a licence unless they breed 3 litters. It is an utter mess.

Advertising could be interesting for the breeder in question too, of course, as unless she can prove that her Council has told her she doesn't require a licence, most advertising sites will require a licence number.

I expect many people think this is a good thing - but unfortunately what it actually does is play right in to the hands of the large scale commercial breeders, and the dedicated hobby breeders are giving up in their droves.

Branleuse · 15/01/2019 09:15

i think thats disgusting
