Puppy Training

Hi All. We have a new puppy and he is 11 weeks old tomorrow. He is a beautiful silver cockapoo. We are no winning the training battle, so he is still peeing and posing inside, biting or nipping really; and eating the cat poop in the garden. Any advice or suggestions? The trainer we had planned is unable to attend now.

peeing and pooing in the house? biting and nipping? eating cat poop? Yep so far so normal!

Toileting make sure he goes out every 15 to 30 minutes. Take him out after food, water, waking up from a nap and if he's been running around.

My pup was a nightmare for eating cat poo, we just had to find it before he did. He used to race out the door at 5.30am to find our cat's first poo of the morning!

... consistency and routine will help him grow out of it! And look for some training class asap! You will learn valuable tricks to speed things up a bit - if your pup cooperates!

Following. Little cocker spaniel here and we’re in the same boat. Sometimes I think we’re getting there with the toilet thing and then I step in a puddle. Little monkey can be outside for a good 10 minutes and do nothing then wee as soon as she steps back in the house. I honestly think she’s objecting to the cold. Is this a thing?

The biting is constant but I’m guessing we’ve just got to ride it out...

Thanks for all your responses very helpful. Does anyone know of a reputable trainer in or near London SE23 area? The one we booked had some bad news and is unable to help us at the moment.

If you're on FB join the group Dog Training Advice and Support. They've got a collection of articles/guides in the 'Files' section called Congratulations on Your New Puppy which covers pretty much everything you need to know.

They can also recommend you a trainer that covers your area or you can look via organisations like the APBC, APDT or IMDT.

We have an almost 11 week old too and like ye, we were constantly cleaning up pee and poo.
We started putting her in a crate a few times a day for a few mins to get her used to it. Giving toys and treats in the crate while she was in it. She was going in and out herself to nap.
So once she was comfortable in there, we dumped the puppy pads and put her into it at night. She wont soil the crate as its her bed. So after she settled and went to sleep, she woke when she needed to wee/poo. She barked to get out, so we took her out and brought her straight outside where she goes to the toilet.
Then straight back into it again to go back to sleep.
She woke twice in the night for the first night, then only 1 once in the night. And last night for the first time she slept from 11.30 till 7, and i had to wake her. So straight out to toilet then.
Its definately helped her to learn how to hold it.
Fingers crossed it will only get better.
Also weve noticed, when she wants to go now, she barks at door. We have to be quick alright. But shes telling us.
Also last meal at 5pm and no water for about 2 hours before bed.
Its a pain, standing in the garden at 4am, but it takes 10 mins max and is better than a yukky mess in the morning, which takes a good 20 mins to clean up.
We only started her in the crate on monday and we are here already.
