Pup hurt at day care

My 7 month old lab has been to doggie day care ( unit on an industrial estate, dog is happy there and it’s well used and loved by the community ) today, I picked him up and when we got home for a fuss and cuddle I’ve seen he has several scratches/minor cuts on his stomach and inner thighs and quite a bad cut on his ear.
The cut on his ear is both sides of the tip, and the blood has dried.
Nothing was mentioned when I picked him up, would you ask them if they know what happened or am I being precious?

My dog always comes home from daycare with a variety of cuts and grazes. However, I know these are from him running about and jumping over things in the forest as he gets two walks there and he does the same when he is walking with me.

If there isn't a situation like above then I would ask to put your mind at ease.

You said an industrial estate, is it entirely indoors then?
Or have they been playing outside aswell?

Can honestly say my dog has never came back with an injury and if she did I would want to know exactly what happened

The cuts and grazes on my dog are from thorns and from when he misses the landings jumping over logs. He gets loads when he walks with me as well as with his dog walker but if you knew my dog you would not be surprised iykwim.

However, if your dog isn't walked or they look like the 'cuts' might be from other dogs then definitely ask them.

Of course you're not being precious. You're perfectly entitled to know why your dog has these scratches.

Hopefully he has been somewhere exciting and got them from thorns or some such, but equally they could have been caused by another dog and you need to know.

Thank you for the replies. They do have a big outside area with trees and bushes so it’s possible the ones on his stomach are from this, but his ear definitely looks like another dog has bitten him.
We walk all the time in woods and fields and he’s never had anything like this.
My husband thinks i shouldn’t mention it so it’s helpful to get other people’s opinions.

Just another thought. If it was caused by another dog, the people who run the day care need to be made aware of it, if they aren't already.

Please do mention it.

If his ear looks 'chewed' then I agree you do need to mention it.

If you aren't sure how to approach it in a 'non confrontational' way you could ask if they have had any new dogs as you noticed what looked like a chewed ear and some scratches on your dog when you last picked him up.

I’m not sure why your DH thinks it shouldn’t be mentioned really.

You have taken your dog for a lovely time, paid for the privilege and he has been injured.

Whether it is by a dog or by thorns i would find it concerning that the staff haven’t mentioned it.

I would be wondering just how much attention they pay to the dogs in their care if his ear is indeed the result of a bite.

Especially as you say nothing like that has happened before despite him racing around in the undergrowth.

I would definately mention it

If his ear looks like it has been bitten, then definetly ask them about it. My girl will occasionally tug on a known play pals ear if they are being too boisterous but never leaves a mark. If she does it I know she has had enough play and put her on lead.If there is blood, the daycare will want to know so that they are able to monitor and prevent any situation from escalating and should be pleased that you have flagged it up.

As a boarding kennel owner, I tell the owner of any injuries when they pick up (thankfully very few and always self inflicted).
I would be horrified had I not noticed and would definitely want to be told.
Worst case scenario it gets infected and needs vet treatment, you can claim on their insurance, but only if you tell them. My policy is I must be notified within 72hrs if I remember correctly. I wouldn't be upset, it is things like that why we are insured.

My dog has never come home injured from daycare and if he did is expect to be told what had happened, when and how!

Whenever he's under the weather, chews something he shouldn't or has an accident I get a message right away. I also get regular updates of his adventures so I can see what he's upto.

I wouldn't be happy but I also wouldn't send my dog to a daycare on an industrial estate! He goes to someone's home instead.
