Our 6 months old pup is SO itchy! His skin, his paws, he just can’t seem to stop scratching!

We have tried medicated shampoos and adding salmon oil to his food. We are off to the vets this morning to see if they can give him an anti histamine.
If your dog has problems with itchiness what has helped?
TIA

They are a herding breed. Actually traditionally used for herding sheep but now also used in many other lines of work too.
Just had a quick google of MDR1. Have never heard of it before! Will need to have a read up and see what my vet knows!

Oh.
I am sorry I didn’t realise, I have seen pictures of them before but never knew they were a herding breed!

MDR1 is typically found in border collies, rough/smooth collies, Shetland sheepdogs, Australian shepherds and German shepherds.

It can be tested for with a cheek swab.

Hmm.
Just done a google and the Spanish Water dog pictures aren’t the breed I thought it was..

I was thinking of a big brown, partially shaved dog with a shaggy head.

That’s going to drive me crazy now trying to work out what breed I am thinking of 🤣

Portuguese Water Dog Doggy? The show clip is shaggy front and shaved hind end plus they come in liver.

I think so.
An old colleague had some sort of water dog. I remember him referring to it as a water dog.

Head like this and body like this

Thanks for the info. I will have a chat to my vet about this. 1st time I’ve heard of it though also 1st time having this breed.
SWD typically look like a labradoodle/cocker poo but totally different personality. Once he has his yearly shaving he will look totally different again.
