8 week old Labrador weighing 3kg?

Breeder has just updated me in that the pup (female) we’ll be picking up next week is 3kg at 8 weeks. The heaviest in the litter was 4.43 and she was the lightest with the next lightest weighing 3.5kg. Do you think this is average or will she grow to be a little lab girl?

I weighed my fox red lab the day we got him at 8 weeks, and he was 5.8 kgs!
Don’t know what is average, but he’s a very slim athletic looking dog now.

dirtynell Ah, her mum is also very slim and athletic and while not a big Labrador isn’t particularly small. She’s 7 and a half weeks now but she obviously won’t put much on in 3 days. She didn’t look too skinny when I met her last week so I really don’t know

Battendog - a very large springer - was 3kg at 8 weeks. He is now 23kg fully grown.

She was just under 2kg 2 weeks ago so will hopefully have a bit of a growth (and weight) spurt- don’t want her future lab friends to be towering above her

Ours was 3.3kg at exactly 8 weeks (yes I've kept a list on my phone 😄) and is now about 18kg and a fairly slim collie.

It's really hard to tell what size they'll be for a while yet but I find paw size a good indicator.

Our lab pup was actually really chunky when we got him, I read through a lot of sites and forums at the time as I thought he was too fat! Turns out there’s a huge variety of sizes at that age, I found this chart really good, your pup sounds likes she’s definitely on the smaller side, but still within normal limits.

Side note, that chart is pounds, not kg. And our lab is a giant chunky boy now at 4

Female lab:
7 weeks = 2.2kg
10 weeks = 3.6kg
12 weeks = 4.8kg

1yr to 4 years = between 24kg-28kg

She is still very small. Didn't look particularly small for her litter, parents normal size. She is just very small (and cute).

Greatest thing about a small lab - she acts like a big dog, but fits in the passenger footwell on journeys (we now get our boot space back).

Worst thing about having a small lab - she has claimed the under duvet spot at the bottom of the bed - heavy breathing on your feet anyone?!

@Squeezle I'm fairly sure dogs aren't supposed to travel in the footwell and should be secured either in the boot or clipped into a seatbelt.

We have a Lab x Springer so slightly different, but he was 2.9kg and a tiny little dot when we picked him up. He was the runt of the litter. His mum was a small Lab and his dad was massive for a Springer.When we took him back to the vets 4 weeks later he had put on 6.2kg in those 4 weeks! He's now 32kg at 12 months, is the size of a normal Lab and is the biggest out of all his siblings, who have all stayed small Springer size

They seem to gain an almost impossible amount of weight at that age, so it is really hard to judge what size they will be at that stage

Also agree about paw size, ours had bloody massive paws all along which everyone commented on saying how big that meant he would grow. Seems they were right!

On the paw size I don't think they are actually indicative of size. My cocker has 'massive' paws and everyone comments on the size. He is on the small/medium size but his paws look like they belong to a massive dog
