Tommy the greyhound has arrived!

So excited and happy to introduce Tommy on his gotcha day! We got home about an hour ago and he is pacing but also loving his bone, as you can see! Thank you to everyone on my last thread who helped me with preparations. He's such a lovely boy!

I hope you don't mind me asking, but I've often been interested as to why greyhounds always have such chunky/wide collars? Is it a style thing or for a specific reason?

He's absolutely gorgeous!

It’s because their heads are so slim and pointy, to stop the collar slipping off so easily

I have podengos which are a bit like somewhere between whippet and greyhound, with a similar beth slim build

Lucky Tommy! Hope you got some sleep? I spent the first night listening out to see what they were up to! Enjoy getting to know him but don't worry if you suddenly feel overwhelmed for a few days...it's normal! Grin

Philpot well, I thought it was all going so well...until about 2:15am. I heard him padding about downstairs and checked on spycam and saw a suspicious pile of something far away. So went to check and he had done 2 cowpats by the back door. Cleared them up then thought I had better take him out for a double check. He did the longest wee I've ever heard. Literally thought I was going to fall asleep while he drained himself! Then when I got back in dd had woken up and was insisting we sleep on the sofa. At this point I was like yeah whatever tbh Grin but the reality was uncomfortable. Ended up getting up at 6:15 and starting the day. Sooo Tommy hasn't had much sleep - I thought you all said they were lazy Hmm Wink

Yep, that sounds a bit like our first night about the poops! I'm sure he will get lazier as he settles. Ours is a lurcher so slightly more energetic!? She was quite restless the first few days/nights but now has claimed a chair and spends many hours upside in strange contorted positions!

I want a greyhound soool much! My pooch is scared of other dogs though so I can't. There was a GH charity in PAH at the weekend and I spent longer than was reasonable cuddling the biggest giant of a GH that I have ever seen though. 😂

Greyhounds are beautiful dogs. Tommy looks very happy in his new home! Hopefully he will adjust his routine to wait till you can let him out before pooing, once he gets used to the time you normally get up.

We've just taken him for a walk around the local roads and he thought it was fantastic! He especially liked dd being on her scooter as this meant he could try to keep up alongside her Shock. Not so good, however for mummy, who feels like she has done her school cross-country for the first time in appx 25 years.
At least he did an epic wee, but no poo since dinner. May have to try again at 10ish.
It's hilarious having the camera set up downstairs as when he is walking about nosing around I can watch him. Every now and then he hears the camera move and stops and stares at the camera in the dark with ears up, then decides no one is watching so goes back to sticking his beak into everything. Seems to be fascinated with his reflection in the log burner, but not the mirror for some reason Hmm. He also dislikes bananas. Dd is proud of this as she is the only person she knows who also hates bananas. At least I can leave them on the side!

He's a beaut op Smile we had a few accidents in the first couple of weeks but he's been perfect ever since. IME and a fair few other owners I've spoken to they change so much in the first year. It's nice to watch then settle into retirement Smile
