I know your bored an open letter to my dogs

The weather is white, and the only times I can walk you it's pitch black, I am sorry, but with you, and getting the DC's 13&10 up and off to school and then me to work, with no one else to help.

I do understand how you feel, I would feel the same too but I do t think I would tear a huge hole in a 1yo sofa.

I hope things get better they should do from march onwards when it's lighter and dryer. but please bear with me and try to understand.

with regards your really pissed off owner

any one else want to send an open letter to their dogs?

Instead of writing letters why not get dog walkers? They sound bored and under stimulated.. destructing furniture is a sign of frustration and boredom

It is a long long time until March - I love to walk no matter the weather. I need stimulation otherwise the chair will be next to be chewed!!

I know your OP is probably meant to be lightheaded but I would expect more damage from a bored dog if he isn't being walked until March.

March is a super long time away. My dog is a bit miserable with this weather and is trying to hibernate. Not even bored. We both just moved to UK from the tropics and can not believe how far away spring is. BUT when we manage to put on all the clothes and go out for a run/walk it makes everyone feel so much better and alive!! Embrace the dark, damp weather, and the bright crisp days, or it'll be a long miserable slog, with many chewed belongings!

I’m not sure you should’ve got dogs if you weren’t prepared to walk them in all weather.

Get a dog walker, layer up and take them out, rehome to someone who will walk them properly or expect a lot more damage, March is a long time away yet.

I think he/she would still enjoy the walk even if it's dark. It's understandably boring for the dog to see the same 4 walls for months on end so I guess tearing the sofa up was desperate entertainment. Bundle up and get out there, winter comes every year! Smile

Maybe get up earlier so your dog can get a walk before the day starts. It obviously doesnt like being left alone all day, you need to find another way. Poor bugger

What I meant by march is when spring comes it gets lighter and the weather improves

I walk the dog's three times a day for a minimum of an hour each time at the moment 6-7am, 5-6pm &10-11pm, I'd love to be walking them but much more. But it's been cold, wet and dark each time it's me not enjoying the walks atm.

And I can see they are not getting enough because my circumstances have changed and the time I have available in the morning has reduced to a 1 hour window, unless I want to get up at 5 instead of six, and the weather is shite. Looking after two active digs and two active children, I need a bit if sleep

And if I was Uber minted I'd be paying the £15 per hour to have them walked by someone else.

plus they are not my dogs they are the X's and the DC would be really pissed off if I rehomed them.

I'd just tidied up the mess and rather be angry at the dogs vent here. I've learnt my lesson

Ah just a bit less than normal walking, fair enough, sorry, it did read like there was no walking...

Could you give them more stuff to do inside? Chews, puzzles, that sort of stuff can help a lot.

You need to find a way to get your dog walked OP.

What's wrong with everyone wrapping up warmly when you get home from work and you all walking the dog together if you don't want to wander around in the dark on your own.

If I didn't get out every day for months on end I'd probably be tearing holes in the furniture. I'd be depressed, lonely and very unhappy; tearing things up is what dogs do when they're feeling that way.

Think about it from your dog's point of view and put him/her into doggy day care or get a dog walker.

Poor dog. You're lucky it's only the sofa he chewed.

I love how whenever anyone gets asked how much they walk their dogs it's suddenly '15 walks a day and at least 10 hours even if it's raining' Grin

Thought you meant you wouldn't be walking dog till march.

That's plenty of walking. I revise my opinion. Dog has no right to chew your sofa.

Are the dogs alone all day? Separation anxiety? They are being walked so I can’t see why else they’re eating the furniture.

Sorry OP. It sounds like you’ve got a bit on your plate. I wonder if the dogs need more mental stimulation? Can you do things like hiding treats, their food in small bowls or favourite dog toys, around a room for them, then telling them to ‘find the treats’. You can also get puzzles that they get treats from. They have to work out what blocks to move, to get the treats/dog biscuits out. My old dogs learnt within five minutes and refused to eat his biscuits unless they were put in the puzzle. 😆 I swear dogs enjoy their food more if they have to work it. If your dogs are kept in a room with a solid floor, you can freeze natural yoghurt and strawberries in a long, for longer lasting feat for them.

I dog sit and two of my dogs are terrible barkers. They are much better behaved if I spend time giving them mental stimulation as a dog walk is never quite enough.

You original OP really came across as not walking at all.

Have you tried to mix more mental stimulation into the routine which actually can be done indoors. My dog goes to daycare and because of that he is very fit. Walking him more does absolutely nothing for him but a 10 minute training session of tricks really settles him down for the night.

The thing is I know they are not getting what they were used to before separation, I enjoyed my 1.5 to 2 hour walk between 6 and 8 before going to work, the DC's were up out and gone when I got back, the evenings again it would be 6 to 8, then 10 to 11. During the day they'd get an hour at 11, an hour+ at 2 to school pick up.

They are young active dogs, the worst part is the shitty drizzle that no matter how flash my waterproofs are still gets everywhere and at 6am it's bloody cold so I end up with two pairs of gloves and ovetmitten.

I still think my X should have got an old shagged out rescue dog than fancy assed designer huskies

huskies are never tired. I used to have one a long time ago. I honestly used to walk her 15 miles and she would still be bouncy when I was dragging my feet home.
