My dog stinks!

I need to give her a bath. She absolutely reeks at the minute.
I've tried to get her into the groomers but they're fully booked until after Christmas and I can't wait that long

What do you use to bath your pup? How do you get them smelling beautiful?

The groomers always manage to get her smelling absolutely gorgeous but whenever I try to do it myself I can never fully get rid of that smell.

She's an English Bulldog, so an absolutely lump too.
Any tips will be much appreciated!

I have two shampoos at home. The fox poo one and a puppy one. If he's smelly but not fox poo smelly I use a tiny bit of the puppy shampoo on him.

No idea if this is right or not but I figure puppy shampoo must be quite gentle on their skin.

The only shampoo I have is puppy shampoo, for the same reason. I assume it gentle. However, it's only used in extreme circumstances as dog isn't smelly generally.

My dog only goes to the groomer for paw trimming and claws but they sometimes comb her and use some horrible smelly stuff on her.

I actually hate the way dogs smell when they come home from the groomer.

Friends swear by the grapefruit dog shampoo, we've a generic one from either Amazon or P@H. I just put her into the shower, the easiest way I've found with a medium-sized dog (Staffy).

Haven't got her trained to shake herself in the shower though, she always saves that one until she gets out!

I don't bath mine often but when I do (i.e. when they've rolled in something repulsive ) I use thise Dorwest shampoo. Gentle enough to not set off my eczema and leaves them smelling nice but not weirdly perfumed.

Are you cleaning her facial folds daily? They can get manky very quickly, especially if they're very pronounced. You might find that doing a good clean of her bum, particularly if she's got a tail pocket, also helps.

Give her mouth a good check over too. Brachy breeds are prone to getting food and other debris caught amongst their back teeth or trapped in the folds of the roofs of their mouths as well as being at higher risk of gum disease. Bad breath from tooth or mouth issues can be a surprisingly pervasive smell.

Use baby shampoo, the no tears type.

Yes I have a Labrador cross and lift all 22kg of her into a lukewarm bath , dog shampoo then out and dry with a towel - then of course have to clean the bath as it will have a tide mark of dog hair - lovely

We use wildwash stinky dog shampoo for when battendog has rolled in something obscene.

Otherwise, it's the dogwood puppy shampoo.

I never do as good a job as the groomer though. Just ask battendog who's had to endure a 'mum' haircut - it looks like the council did it (as my gran used to say)

I'd echo the suggestion to narrow down exactly what it is that smells: bum, sin folds, mouth, teeth etc. Can really help.

I'm in PetsAtHome now and there are soooo many shampoos.
I genuinely cannot believe the sheer amount of them.

I clean her folds every day and apply sudocrem to her nose crease.
Her teeth get a good brush once a week and she has a dentastick every day.
Her anal glands have just been massaged

It's just that general dog smell that accumulates over time.
She needs a good soak and a nice smelling shampoo.

I'd advise against using any human shampoo - the pH of a dog's skin is very different to that of a human, and even gentle shampoos can cause skin issues.

Tomato ketchup will get rid of any horrible smells, then use puppy shampoo afterwards.

Dorwest Oatmeal Advance shampoo is great. Lathers nicely, rinsed easily, very gentle and smells very pleasant, just a subtle lavender smell, nothing too overbearing.

Gives a mirror-like shine on dark dogs too!

I got a coconut and neem oil bar shampoo from somewhere which is nice.

We use baby shampoo- it's okay to use on dogs and cheap :)
