Dropped puppy

This evening when taking my 9 week old puppy outside for the toilet, he wriggled and I dropped him on to the patio, he made an awful yelping noise for what felt like forever but was probably only 20 seconds, since he has been fine, running normally, no visible signs of injury and normal
behaviour. I’ve spoken to out of hours vets who has advised of things to keep an eye on - potential concussion etc. I know nobody on here can give medical advise but I cannot stop crying, I feel so worried and guilty, the lady I spoke to said it happens all the time, has anyone else dropped their puppy? Feel like the worst person in the world right now 😢😢😢

Don't worry, they bounce surprisingly well. If he's in a wriggly mood try and hold him closer to the ground rather then clutching him to your shoulder.

BiteyShark · 04/12/2018 05:28

I never dropped him but I stood on him several times, trap his paws under the door and other things. All accidental but I felt shit afterwards especially when he yelped as it hurt.

He's still here now 2 years old and still loves me despite all of it. Hope your boy is ok.

He seems fine today thank god!! I will take him to vets to check him over, don’t realise how much you love them until something like this happens, only had had him a week and already can’t imagine being without him ❤️

There are too many incidents where I have accidentally trod/squashed/stabbed(another story!)/trapped NessDog! They do like to make you feel guilty about it!

Glad he's ok!

on saturday I closed my puppy's head in the car window, the guilt was insane, but she's absolutely fine. I've looked after puppies for years, they're very good at telling you when they're hurt so if he's acting fine- he is.

I dropped mine once, not a puppy but young dog.

I was meeting my DD at the station and had dog in my arms, she's small and it was busy and I didn't want her trodden on.

As soon as dog saw DD she shot out of my arms towards DD; I'll never forget the horrible thump as she landed with all four feet on the concrete.

For days I was convinced that she must have broken something but thankfully, she was absolutely fine, not even a limp.

When my Chihuahua was 10 weeks old he was half way up the the stairs when my cat tackled him and he tolled down about 5 steps and hit his head on the last wooden step. He also made a horrible screaming/helping noise for what seem like forever, even cuddling him he wouldn't stop! I think it's more out of shock because he was fine after about 10 minutes of looking sorry for himself. He's about 7 months today and definitely gets his revenge months cat, mostly by shagging her.. yuk.

SlothMama · 04/12/2018 13:11

OP everyone in my family dropped our girl (some of us managed to catch her in time) she's fine. Puppies are pretty tough, just try to keep a firmer grip!

Sparklfairy · 04/12/2018 13:15

When we went to look at/choose our puppy, the woman wanted to keep thrvteo girls in the litter. They were 2 or 3 weeks old. She put them on the sideboard and one inevitably rolled off! The yelping was shocking but she was fine when we went to collect our boy a few weeks later!

Sparklfairy · 04/12/2018 13:15

The two girls not thrvteo

Sarahmoore0510 · 04/12/2018 13:18

Thank you so much for your replies! Took him to the vet (mostly to make me feel better) she said he seems fine, just to keep an eye next 48 hours for possible concussion.

Laughing at the chihuahua revenge shagging the cat 😂😂

Sarahmoore0510 · 04/12/2018 18:17

Yes Apositivemind he is a cavapoo! Not shagged any cats yet but loves to ‘cuddle’ my 5 year old daughters leg 🤣

APositiveMind · 04/12/2018 18:24

Ha 'cuddle' !
I didn't take my mum very seriously she she said "get him done as soon as he is of age"
Planning this in the new year so hopefully he'll have less.. urges?

agedknees · 04/12/2018 20:07

My granddog used to be a leg hugger. Once he was ‘done’, he stopped. He’s a poochon.

My 10 week old pomeranian took an ALMIGHTY LEAP off the sofa a couple of years ago. She let out an almighty yelp and then lay there silent FOREVER about 5 seconds I thought she was dead.

She stood up, shook herself off and went bounding after the big dog. She was completely fine. Gave me a bloody hear attack though

MilkyCuppa · 04/12/2018 20:18

I dropped my actual human baby on the tiled floor. He’s fine. I’m sure your doglet is too. They’re not as heavy so they don’t fall as hard!

Ragevibration · 04/12/2018 20:31

milky DOGLET!!!!!!!! GrinGrinGrin

PragmaticWench · 04/12/2018 20:38

I dropped our puppy off my lap whilst collecting him from the breeder. Not a great impression to give and I felt awful in case I'd hurt him!
