When do you put a blind poodle down?

Sissy is a 14 yr old poodle. She has always lived up to her name. She is very skittish. She can asctually run backwards faster than forward. She has always been very timid. She runs into me constantly. She pees in my floor regularly. I have had to throw out 1000.00 of rugs. She spins in place and goes backwards and forwards over and over again. I have two other small dogs ages 3 and 6. She gets along with them ok but i get very upset with her urinating on my floor. She will do it right at my feet. How long am i supposed to deal with the=is? What is right? Thank you for your responses!

How long has she been weeing on the floor? Is it a recent thing?

She sounds an unhappy dog, is she taken out to use the toilet, what does the vet say about her behaviour, is it all related to her blindness.

So to be clear. You are not wanting to put her down because she is blind. You want to put her down for weeing on your rugs? Firstly, have you taken her to see a vet to check she doesn't have a urinary tract infection? Have you checked if she is weeing due to stress or anxiety? If so, what could be causing this? (changes/disturbances within the household, new neighbours, kids screaming or shouting outside. Your first port of call is the vet to establish what the problem is and how best it can be managed.

She is 14 blind and scared .Probably best to talk to vet about your options but she's sounds very unhappy

This is sad. You are pissed off about the pee but that dog sounds terrified.
WHY is it peeing indoors? Fear? Infection? Confusion? Do you get mad at her when she does? How often is she outside

Is she recently blind? Perhaps she's weeing because she's frightened? We took on a dog this year that had been abused, and he weed everywhere initially, purely out of nerves. It stopped completely once he felt safe.

Definitely have a chat with your vet. Go from there...

Circling is often a sign of a neurological problem. Inappropriate urination can be a sign of many things (behavioural, kidney disease, diabetes, infection to name a few). Blindness isn't usually a great problem but combined with her nervous disposition could be problematic for her. More likely to be a problem if it's been sudden onset - could be cataracts caused by diabetes or issues with blood pressure caused by kidney disease.

When did she see a vet last? It sounds like she needs to go for an examination and discussion regarding symptoms and quality of life ASAP.

Its very easy to judge but the OP has a very unhappy dog and living with constant soiling is difficult.

In the absence of her other issues i would be getting her checked for a uti and then think about something to help with bladder tone.

But she sounds absolutely miserable. I think you need to have a frank discussion with your vet about her quality of life. The circling is particularly worrying.

She can actually run backwards faster than forward - because when she runs forwards she hits her head (ouch), when she runs backwards its her bottom (not ouch)

She runs into me constantly - shes blind. Are you making allowances for that? Large spaces for her to move through, keeping everything in the same place, moving out her way if necessary.

She pees in my floor regularly - this is why you want her put down, not because she is blind? Shes 14 years old, they lose bladder control as they get older.

She sounds unhappy, you don't sound very sympathetic. Even if she has an uti, its probably kinder to have her pts.
