Helping him settle in?

Hi all,

We are moving house mid December and just wondering if anyone has any tips on helping the dog settle and become accustomed to his new home?

He took a while settling as a puppy but is fine now, and is never left for a long time without walks or visits Smile

Recently been through this myself, and it certainly did unsettle DDog, but things I think helped were

  • keeping packed up boxes out of his sight - I ended up storing them in places like the car and cupboard under the stairs as he was certainly a bit confused by them suddenly appearing
  • using an Adaptil plug in both before and after the move
  • building him up to being used to being left alone in the new house (starting with 30 seconds, but working up to a few hours over the course of a few days)
  • resisting the temptation to wash certain things like bedding, so that things smelt the same as much as possible

Some people put their dog into kennels / with friends and family during a move, but that wasn't really an option for us for various reasons.
