Does anyone here have experience of SSRIs for fear aggressive / reactive dogs? I have a seven year old dog who is very highly strung and can be prone to fear aggression. I've spent many hours working with him (with the help of a behaviourist), and we also work hard to effectively control his environment so he is less trigger stacked. But - he is still very easily tipped over his limit. I just want him to be happy and am wondering if SSRIs may be the answer.

I know someone who has a dog on fluoextine, prescribed by a vet behaviourist. It's no panacea, but it's brought the dog to the point where it's capable of learning and benefiting from training.

As a behaviourist SSRIs are a tool that I use alongside vet guidance obviously.

For some dogs it is just what is needed to help them if they are unable to move forward due to their stress levels.

There are problems with them and they are not a quick fix. I generally only use as a last resort.
