Please talk to me about harnesses.

I have a very fluffy Newfie pup (she's nearly 4 months old). Because she's such a fluff ball it's really tough to put her collar on, especially when she's trying to eat it. I plan to move to a harness once she's bigger anyway but maybe that would be easier than a collar now?

Are there harnesses that grow with a dog? She's growing so fast that I'm worried about wasting money if I get one now.

I found harnesses harder than a collar to put on. I would wait before buying an expensive harness and do go in person to choose, we struggled to find a good fitting one. They do adjust a bit but not sufficient for large breed dogs! Gorgeous pup!!!!

When mine was a puppy I cried trying to get my dog into a harness as he just wasn't having it. Anything he had to stay still for was rubbish. I did eventually use the ezydog quick fit one because it was as quick to get it in him as a collar.

We now have a perfect fit one which comes in three pieces so you would only need to replace the parts she would outgrow. However, they are not cheap so you may want to wait a bit until she is a bit bigger.

The problem with the collar is that she is super furry around her neck so it's hard to clip it on without trapping some hair. Would that still be a problem with a harness? Her hair's not so long around her stomach and back.

Have you tried a belt like collar so that wouldn't trap the hair

Perfect Fit harnesses are brilliant. Fleece lined so super comfy for the dog and are sold in three separate bits so you can get, well, a perfect fit and size up each piece as needed as the puppy grows.

I over ever use a collar for holding an ID tag, harnesses are much kinder, especially for a puppy that is still learning lead manners. No jolts and pulls on the throat.

I also use Perfect Fit, they are pricey but mine has lasted me the last few months and my girl is still growing. I use a collar for her ID tag, just to comply with the law.

I used a Mekuti harness when my large and rapidly growing dog was a pup then moved to a Perfect Fit once he was bigger and I'd only need to adjust a little rather than order more pieces.

As PP said can't you just use a belt-like collar and leave it on all the time.

Pup is so gorgeous, I am trying to steal her through the computer screen.

Also those clip collars won't handle her weight very soon and snap at the worst time when she lunges at something.

We got these...slips over the head easy with no clip but then the body part has two clips, means your dog doesn't have to step into it and it's easier to get around fur.

Yes I know what you mean about catching their fur in the clips. I still have to be careful with a harness though but the access is easier iykwim.

A Julius k9 might be worth a try,really easy to put on,adjust and have adequate growing room.

I just used a cheap pets at home own bland harness while my puppy was still growing.

Not sure why I didn't think of a buckle collar. Initially I chose not to have one because they take longer to do up. Might be an option now that she's a bit calmer and follows some commands.
