Rehomed Spaniel Peeing 🙄

We have an 11 year old springer that we rehomed via our dog warden a few days ago. He isn't in the best of condition and not been very well looked after previously. He's a lovely little chap but obviously a bit anxious and unsettled. He is house trained and had plenty of walks and pee visits to the garden, so I know that's not the problem but he keeps cocking his leg on door frames and scent marking tiny amounts. He also went for my dressing gown that was hanging on the end of my bed today 🙈. Any ideas what we can do to stop him?

No advice sorry but following as we have a full grown Dobermann just the same! Had him for nearly a month now. He peed up my dressing gown when I was wearing it 😂😂😂 it is getting better though not as often! Has he been neutered? Mine hasn't yet. It seems to occur more in a new room/place or when he's worried

Dogs can scent mark when they are anxious ,so it is early days yet Also some illnesses can exacerbate it so I would advise a vet check if you have not already done this.

I would used adaptil in the house for a month to help him settle down and relax. Many things can stress out a dog from new environment to noises outside, to seeing things out of the window so maybe see if any of this can be prevented.

Can he be happy in just one room so that he gets used to one environment. Try and remove objects he could mark on (easier sent than done)

Clean up the marking with pet solution or a biological washing powder as that will clear up the smell and not encourage new marking. Do not scold or tell off but do reward the marking outside.

I hope things settle down this is hard to live with

I would also suggest it's stress.
Restricting him to a smaller area might help him settle ( and save your house!). Hopefully a few days of a good routine bonding with you and he will be calmer.

THANK YOU! For doing this! Your boy hasn't got many years left but if they are surrounded by love it is truly special. I managed to train my 10 week rescue GSD pup just by being consistent. Like on the hour no bother at all now!

Our rescue greyhound did this a lot when we first got him (he'd never even been in a house before so wasn't trained in any way shape or form). We used rug doctor spray to clean it up as it's got enzymes that break down the urine so they're less likely to wee there again, and we also put pepper on the areas he used to wee on most and this deterred him. Hope it stops soon OP! Xx

Be ultra careful for a few days- don't scare him if he effs up. Please pm if you need additional help :)
