Help! My dog may be pregnant?

Today I took my 2 dogs for a walk. My younger dog is 15 months old. She is at the end of her second season and due to be spayed on 29th. A dog pounced on my dog even though she was on her lead and proceeded to mount her and I ciuksnt get him off her. The dogs owner ran away in the other direction and several other dog walkers tried to move them apart to no avail. My dog was very distressed but they were locked together for around 10 mins. I am very worried as it was obvious that mating had taken place. When the dogs owner came back he said he hadn't been spayed and that there was nothing he could do. Irritating as my 4 year old border collie was spayed early on to avoid this happening to other dogs. My younger dig is a spaniel/labrador. Any advice please.

I'm not pro one way or the other. It's the whole "it's not my fault" thing that pisses me off. It's your dog so your problem. I also had another male dog that was done but still a ladies man. I knew that so would take steps to try and keep him at bay. But the whole lack of balls at least prevented more unwanted puppies. Suggesting to keep all females away from him in season would have been ridiculous. If you own a dog it is your responsibility to stop it breeding. You can't just blame everyone else because they have a bitch that isn't spayed as you have an entire male.

I have both an entire male and entire female. I don't take the female out when she's in heat and I keep the male on the lead at all times because his recall isn't bombproof.

I don't think the bloke is to blame, I've heard of worse. A woman in my local park took her bitch in heat into the dog part and then kicked off when she got mounted off lead! 😂😂 Silly bint.

My girl is the first entire female I've owned, she's not had her first season yet but when we do we'll be walking on the streets not on the park. As by law dogs should be on their leads by roads, I have owned entire males before and never had an issue with bitches in season with them! The last time we met one when he was alive he couldn't care less...

working dogs need exercise and had to lose his balls. Shame as he had great working lines

First of all, my bitch, yes, I am a bitch owner not a dog, is a high drive working line dog.
Can my bitch run literally all day?
Yup.
Can my bitch also manage (or could rather, spayed now) a 4 week walk less month without trashing my house?
Yup.
It’s called
A) Good breeding, breeding a calm, stable temperament with good ‘off switch’ and
B) Good training. From puppyhood.
Sometimes life is boring.

If you neutered an excellent, healthy working dog that you were intending as a possible breeding prospect that would have produced great pups on the grounds he was too horny then you are a fool!

Completely unfair not to exercise a bitch just because she is in season. Just do what my family used to do. Find a pair of Y-fronts (usually patterned brown with the dark brown trim) and put them on you bitch with her tail sticking out the obvious hole. Never sure who looked the most embarrassed, my 12 year old self or the dog.

Brilliant. A page and a half of back and forth before someone comes up with the rather ingenius suggestion of knickers. Love it! Grin
