Advantage for dog and cat on Monday, still scratching!

I have been flea combing everyday but finding no flea dirt and only found two live fleas before commencing treatment.
I combed out another live flea today.
4 days after treatment.
They were supposed to be all dead within 24 hours!

It is extremely upsetting because while the cat really isn’t bothered the dog is actually allergic and is covered in scabs all over her belly now from scratching.

I'm having the same problem! The treatments from the vet don't seem to be working; nor the furniture spray.

I don't know about cats but Advocate (from vet) works on my dog (and did on the previous dog too). I've never used Advantage.

You need the stuff from the vet. I used stronghold last time which worked perfectly. Don't forget to treat your house with a spray (idorex is good)

Quick google suggests Advocate is imidacloprid, which is the same as Advantage.
What a nightmare this is.

I've been using Advocate, to not much avail (dog and two cats). Also washing throws etc. at high temp. I'm sick of the wretched things.

The thing is, the treatment won't stop the fleas from biting the animal. They'll just die afterwards. The fleas are still hatching in your house.

Personally I would get a dude in to treat the house and keep up the treatments on time with the animals.

We found Bravecto from the vet worked, and washing all of the dog beds/towels on a hot wash.

We have a cat and a dog and have Advantage on subscription from Pets at Home. They get sent out in the post every month and as soon as they arrive we treat.

The last couple of months the poor dog has had loads of fleas. We’ve treated the house, I bathed the dog with flea shampoo and then treated with the Advantage but he’s still bloody scratching. Cat seems fine

I’m just hoovering constantly and combing the dog daily in the hope we eventually break the cycle

Spray the whole house with indorex including your bedding, carpets, furniture skirting boards, the lot. Wash all your towels and dog towels and blankets. Don't forget to wash your dog walking coats too. This is on top of flea treatment from the vet.

Indorex kills off the eggs too. It's only needed twice yearly

We realised at the last treatment that what we were buying was for cats under 4kg and ours are heavier than that. We bought the higher weight dose and it's worked so much better... might be worth checking your weights

Fleas will only die after biting the dog. If you have them in the house still hatching then it's a waiting game unless you treat the house as well.

I use monthly nexgard spectra tablets from my vet which does ticks, fleas and worms.

If you already have an infestation then you're wasting your time combing, etc. if you're not smoke bombing the house. They'll keep coming back from the eggs in the carpet and soft furnishings unless you kill them there too.

Combing, spot-on treatments and tablets are only a preventative, they're not a treatment once the fleas are installed in the house.

Get some Fortefog P Midi smoke bombs from Amazon. They work.

Spot on treatment from vets and Virbac spray, pets at home sell it as do some chemists. It definitely works, you have to go out for a few hours after though!

And wash EVERYTHING at a high temperature.

The only only only stuff that works is the advocate from the vet.

I believe there's two types and you need the one the vet prescribes, not the over-the-counter one you can buy without a prescription.

I moved into a flea infested house, i couldn't get rid of them. The only thing that ever worked was the advocate. X

I know people who have sadly lost dogs due to the use of a chemical flea treatments bought from vets and it has recently been proven that "Advocate" has been the cause of some horrendous problems yet people still want to pay a fortune and to pump their pups with toxins. I have been using a natural way for over 30 years which costs just a few pence a month and none of my dogs have ever had fleas, tic's or worms and have all lived long happy healthy lives.

If you've got cats too be careful what you're using as some of it can be toxic to them.

Advantage has exactly the same active ingredient as Advocate 🙄
It will take at least 3 months to kill the flea cycle.
I wish people read up more on fleas when you have pets.
