Dogs stolen and eaten 6 mince pies

Argh.... have only just realised that a box of unopened mince pies were missing from my shoot earlier, I had left my shopping on the table and only realised now I didn’t put them away.
Only to find the empty packet and all wrappings in the garden and one very guilty looking beagle!!
He’s never taken good off the table before, never shown interest in unopened food either.
Should I be worried?!
He would have eaten them 7 hours ish ago

Oh dear! We have naughty doggies too, I would suggest contacting your vet, dried fruit is not good. Our dog had to have treatment after eating chocolate, was fine afterwards. Good luck and hope your pooch is ok 🐶

Does your vet have an out yet f hours/emergency number? There’s also a dogs poison phone number you can call I think. I think you should err on the side of caution. Raisins can be very toxic to dogs.

Just to add - I have a beagle cross so I feel your pain. Mine eats everything he can get hold of.

Oh no it does but I’ve no way of getting him there tonight, my husband is away with work & the car and kids are in bed.

Raisins can kill dogs. You need to contact your vet.

I'd call your vet ASAP, mince pies are toxic to dogs and I've known dogs die from eating them. The raisins are deadly, best to get him seen ASAP

If they have alcohol in the pies they'll be even more poisonous too. Often finest or special minced pies have brandy in

As per previous posters please contact your vet asap. Mince pies can be toxic and the quicker the treatment the better.

Also the vet may be able to advise you over the phone whether the amount he has eaten is too much and will need treatment or not.

Renal failure from digestion of raisins is delayed onset. It doesn't affect every dog however in some dogs can be fatal.

It is too late to make your dog sick but he may require fluid therapy. The sooner this starys the better the chances of preventing permanent damage.

Please call your local ooh service for advice. Is there anyone who can help with the kids/transport?

Our dog ate a whole soda bread with raisins in it he had stolen from the countertop (it was in a bag). Never again. He had the squits for 5 days and needed specialist probiotics for a month to reset. He then got a bacterial ear infection which he hasn't been able to shake despite 4 courses of antibiotics. He is now having injections of antibiotics. Total bill is over $2500 (usd). My friend had given me the soda bread from her bakery for 'free'. It's the most expensive damn soda bread I've ever never eaten!!!!

My bastard, bloody Labrador managed to eat an entire Christmas cake that I had left to cool down, the old bugger went on to enjoy a good few more years afterwards though my bank balance was noticeably lighter for a few weeks. Fingers crossed for your boy.

Just for the sake of anyone reading this.

Raisins and grapes can be highly toxic.
For some reason that they don't understand, they are highly toxic to some dogs, and do not effect others at all.
In dogs who are very sensitive just a couple of raisins can be harnful. In a non sensitive dog, they can eat a lot without harm.

Trouble is, you don;t know which your dog is until they have eaten raisins and reacted/not reacted.

The reaction is as pp pointed out, delayed, so they seem to be fine and are then ill later. Ideally you need to make them sick before they digest the raisins/grapes.

We got our rescue dog in Nov, and I didn't know any of that, and at Christmas he stole a whole mini Christmas cake (but it wasn't proper dark raisin heavy one) and over Christmas managed to scoff one or two mince pies. It was a shock to realise they could have killed him, but on the other hand we now know that he isn't very sensitive to them! And we are now wise to his thieving ways.

My old dog ate a fair amount of chocolate raisins a couple of years ago - a trip to the vets, induced vomiting, three nights in the animal hospital on a drip and a few blood tests and he was good as new. My bank balance not so much after the £800 bill :(
