Which breed?

I've been inspired by another post..

My OH and I have been discussing getting a dog. Not now, but in a few years. And I'm trying to figure out what would be the best breed for us (if it even exists!)

I've always had dogs. From tiny to pretty damn big. I know I would enjoy training and exercising said dog.

My OH is a cat person. Has never had a dog. Is concerned about the dog smell. This is probably a silly question but.. Are there certain breeds that smell less doggy?

We would want something easy to train. My OH is a builder so would like to take the dog to work. So will need a high level of obedience. We would be very committed to the training but obviously I know some breeds are easier/more trainable than others.

We live quite active lifestyles. OH would love for dog to come mountain biking etc with us. I've previously done some agility with previous dogs (only for fun!) but really enjoyed this and would love to do more in the future.

What would you wise MNers suggest?

A working cocker spaniel! They love being active, have endless energy, easy to train and don’t seem to stink after a walk (even with dips in the river). You can keep their hair short or let it grow long and they don’t malt.

^oh and they are great communicators who love affection, cuddles, and maintain eye contact when you talk to them. They’re also great with kids and other dogs.

If you can’t tell already, I have two. They’re daft and adorable characters who make my day when I come home!

A builder take a dog to work? How? It wouldn’t be safe on site and couldn’t be shut in a van all day.
And yes some breeds are more smelly.

@Angharad07 I was thinking possibly spaniel. Beautiful dogs. I've never had one before. But would be brilliant for agility and going out on bikes!

@Wolfiefan he owns the company. The dog wouldn't be shut in the van. Would have somewhere safe/secure for dog to be. But would have to be happy with noise and the busy site. Obviously not always suitable, so dog could happily stay home with me or we would have dog walker etc.

Ok. Brill. So not out and about on site but more in an office set up or something. That’s much clearer.
Spaniels are VERY active! Could well suit. Good luck!!

We have a whippet. No doggy smell. He goes off to work with my roofer partner and loves it. He gets a walk before work, one at dinner and one in the evening. Most customers so far have been happy for dog to play in their garden. He had a crate which my partner puts up for him full of blankets or he will ask to go in the van for a nap when he is tired. He’s even been invited inside customers homes occasionally and allowed to kip on their sofas! He runs straight to the door in the morning and loves going to work. He is happy with long or short walks as long as he gets off lead time. We think he is a perfect dog for us.

We have a Lab x Springer Spaniel. He’s 10 months old, was extremely easy to train, eager to please. He’s the size of Lab and looks like one facially and with colouring, but has a few characteristics of a Spaniel. He’s very lean and leggy, a lot of people think he’s just a working lab. He goes to work with my partner some days as partner is a groundsman.
He loves long walks and running about, and the spaniel in him means he can go forever. They never really seem to get tired from just exercise so we give him a lot of brain engaging things to do as well to keep him occupied and entertain him. But just as much as exercise he loves nothing more than lazing about with us and cuddling - as I’m writing this he’s asleep on the sofa where he has been for the last 3 hours!
We don’t ever seem to notice any kind of smell on him, although I know some people say you don’t notice it in your own house but that visitors might?
