Oh squirrel that would also have me Angry! I did have a pile of all our merino base tops and leggings on the bathroom floor the other day ready for a special wash and Ddog immediately saw them as a lovely soft things to roll on but I shooed her away before she had a chance to chew!

Ddog picked up a cashmere glove that a friend had left here and took it off to her bed right in front of me... nonchalant as you like! It's cute but also very annoying! She's so rarely left but if she's going to be on her own for anything like an hour we know have to put any of our wooly, fluffy, puffy, furry coats/hats/jackets/gloves etc. in the bedroom and lock the door - total pain but she has pulled down from coat pegs both of our really expensive "investment" jackets that we actually need (rather than fashion items) and had a good old chew on them! I'm now dreaming of the time we can move to a bigger place and have proper walk in hallway cupboard for all this stuff.

PestDog's sins from yesterday include yet another trip into the secret garden DF's NDN's garden and telling off a five month lab old puppy that jumped on him in a cafe (just noise to be fair, and the puppy had no manners).

The fencing issue could definitely be fixed but DF is notoriously allergic to proper maintenance and won't allow me to purchase a roll of chicken wire, instead preferring to patch the hole with sticks Hmm It's a good job PestDog doesn't go far - he got out of the front door (my fault) and was found in the back garden. Got out of the back garden (through a hole in the garage wall Hmm) and was found on the driveway. I strongly suspect that if he got lost on a walk (never has) he'd just make his own way home.

BiteyShark · 21/12/2018 10:44

Oh no, sounds like some mischievous dogs Grin. Hopefully they are getting all out their system before Christmas HmmGrin

Squirrel26 · 21/12/2018 12:08

It’s my own fault. I know he likes to take things out of the laundry basket, and he especially likes anything wool or fleece or soft, but I persist in putting things in there, because IT’S MY LAUNDRY BASKET AND I SHOULD BE ABLE TO PUT MY CLOTHES IN THERE. Angry And I specially bought one with a lid. (He can open the lid...) Rearrange these words into a sentence: ‘Rod own back my making a for.’ Grin

BiteyShark · 21/12/2018 12:14

But SquirrelDog says it's not your laundry basket. It's merely a container for some very special toys Grin

BiteyDog got his own back on us for the jab and stuff shoved up his nose yesterday. He proceeded to demand a toilet trip at 4:30 this morning. It's only because I love him that he gets away with it Hmm

distantdog · 21/12/2018 12:38

That made me laugh squirrel - I might have been known to have said "I just want to bloody hang my coat up like a normal person and not worry about it... this dog was all your idea!!" to DH as he put a new set of coat pegs up that Ddog can't reach... and unfortunately neither can I !!!!

Soubriquet · 21/12/2018 12:48

I took my two out this morning...

Torrential rain hit about half way through the walk

Both dogs (and me for that matter) looked like drowned rats

Madam was not impressed. She hates getting her feet wet so having her whole body wet got me a lot of glares

Little shit didn’t care

BiteyShark · 21/12/2018 12:52

You must have all the rain as it's blowing a gale but bright sunshine here.

Soubriquet · 21/12/2018 12:53
Xmas Envy

It’s been pretty much non stop torrential rain here

Squirrel26 · 21/12/2018 13:13

I quite frequently tell SquirrelDog ‘this is why we can’t bloody well have nice things.’ (As I remove yet another mangled item.)

He’s lucky he’s so Goddamn cute. Grin

fleshmarketclose · 21/12/2018 13:20

Well Bella has gone to exh's to be doggy sat whilst I went shopping this morning. It is so quiet here without her. But this afternoon I get Bella and Eric to make up for it Grin Hope they had a long walk this morning so they are tired later.

steppemum · 21/12/2018 16:18

well, I spoke too soon, steppedog ran away on our walk this morning. I had friend's dog with us, and steppe suddenly put his head down and ran out ofthe woods, through the river, over the field, over the busy road and onto the housing estate where it was bin day.

If that soudns familiar it is becuase he has done it before, and since then I have had him on a lead in that part of the woods. As he was so much calmer, and has been so good, I didn't put the lead on, and just as we turned to go the other way, he made a sharp left turn and legged it.

The worst bot was that FD followed Shock she is SO obedient, and never runs off. I was standing screaming FRIENDSDOG at the top of my voice, I could see her through the trees, she made it half way through the field and then turned and came back. Not sure I would ever forgive myself if she ran over that road.

But it did make me realise that the two of them have become firm buddies, and love walking together and she follows steppedog whereever he leads.....

Soubriquet · 21/12/2018 16:21

Sounds like little shit

I used to be able to let both of them off and they would chase each other round and round having a whale of a time.

The last two times she has refused to come back. The longest being 30 mins.

I was nearly crying with frustration.

I don’t let her off now. Which is sad because they used to love having a good chase.

Hoping once she’s a bit older she starts listening again.

BiteyShark · 21/12/2018 16:23

Oh steppe that would have been 'heart in your mouth' kind of moment. Fortunate that FD is less of a bolter than steppedog Grin.

BiteyShark · 21/12/2018 16:31

The running away is the one reason I put up with the ball obsession by BiteyDog. I couldn't cope with that stress again as it was nearly the death of me.

BiteyShark · 21/12/2018 17:59

Finally finished work for the Christmas break and don't go back until the new year. Looking forward to chilling with BiteyDog, bliss!

thegirlsallgrowedupnow · 21/12/2018 19:22

I have finished too, thank goodness! Chilling probably not on the agenda because adult DC arriving tomorrow and parents plus friends arriving on Christmas Day...house needs sorting and although I have done some food ahead, still need stuff doing! Have multiple kongs in freezer for Cocodog and she loves DC so all will be well.
Cocodog can be a bolter but only, I have realised, when she is overtired or over stimulated. We try to avoid both so stick to a pretty consistent routine and she copes well with odd really busy days and funnily enough is perfect on holiday when she is with us 24/7. Ball obsession, I cannot deal with and she has collie in her too! So it is a 10 minute game before her supper which she looks forward too but doesn’t mither at any point during the day.

BiteyShark · 21/12/2018 19:31

Ah we have a quiet Christmas planned so apart from being in for a food delivery I am all done. Yours sounds more hectic but in a good way and I am sure Cocodog will love the extra company.

BiteyDogs loves his ball. He tends to sit and wait for us to play with him. After a while he will bring it to us and drop it at our feet just in case we haven't seen him Hmm. If I ignore him further he does the really dramatic sighing followed by the sad face resting on your leg Grin.

thegirlsallgrowedupnow · 21/12/2018 21:42

If Cocodog would do what biteydog does, then I would be ok but the more she is exposed to a ball the more tense and unsettled she gets hence only playing last thing before supper and settling down for the night. However, we have had success desensitising her to footballs last summer to the point she could have play and then come inside and leave alone for her supper so will try same technique with small and infinitely more special balls when the evenings get lighter! May need big luck with this.

BiteyShark · 22/12/2018 04:06

I thought BiteyDog was getting far too obsessed at one point as he stopped eating or doing anything when he had the ball. We managed to get him to relax by giving him it all the time but that's opposite to Cocodog and I think it's because BiteyDog was afraid we would take it away.

I am awake as BiteyDog is a bit sneezy and coughy from the KC vaccination and has woke me up and I can't get back to sleep Sad.

BiteyShark · 22/12/2018 15:50

I have the worst gun dog ever. Just been for a road walk and a couple of gun shots went off in the distance. BiteyDog was terrified and effectively spent the next 5 minutes walking at the back of my legs trying to hide [shock. It's a good job he went to a pet home and not a working one.

distantdog · 22/12/2018 16:12

Bitey - yes we always say that about Ddog - would be absolutely useless as the working dog she should ideally be!!

Went out for a walk and even though I'm still not clued up on avalanches even I knew to be cautious today as it suddenly warmed up yesterday meaning the falling snow turned to significant rain for nearly 24 hours and that makes the deep snow very heavy and prone to sliding on steep slopes. Unlike at sea level, once a thick layer of snow is down on the ground it stays, so although the rain diminishes it a bit, it certainly doesn't melt it/wash it all away. I know the limit of altitude on our walk I can safely go up to no matter what the conditions and given how deep and heavy the snow underfoot is after the rain knew it would take me at least an hour to get up to that point anyway... after 30 minutes, though, both Ddog and I heard an avalanche above us and whilst she was happy to continue, I was convinced that was enough for today!! It would have been much higher than us so not a danger but still... She was having to jump rather than run all the way up and down because of how heavy the underfoot snow was so she no doubt got the same amount of exercise anyway... which is good because we got careless this morning and she nicked a whole fresh baguette from the kitchen counter and by the time I'd emerged from the shower it was too late Angry... she'd only had her breakfast about an hour before that!!

BiteyShark · 22/12/2018 16:30

Gosh it sounds a real workout for both of you distant. When we had heavy snow last year I went into the forest and it was really hard work to walk anywhere and we didn't have avalanches to worry about Grin

There is one benefit of having a relatively small dog which is he can't counter surf for food. At best I might see two paws and the end of the nose as that's as far as he can reach Grin

distantdog · 23/12/2018 07:37

It is good exercise Bitey but probably not sufficient for either Ddog or me if we continue like this - her with her baguette obsession, and me with my starting of "Christmas overindulgence" round about the middle of November Blush

We actually had to loosen her harness the other day and I was worried that we were turning her into a little fatty again (after her first few weeks here when we weren't walking her properly and were plying her with treats to win her over) but DH is convinced that it is because she has actually grown and become more muscular as a result of her getting full on mountain walks, not least with the snow.... I can't tell because I didn't think she looked fat at all when we took her for her first check up and the vet said she was absolutely at the max limit of her healthy weight (she'd lost a kilo when we took her back a month later purely from walking + switching to kong feeding).

It's funny though as the working farm dogs round here are all collies and when I went back to the UK for a visit I did notice how "fat" all the collies in the park looked! I'm sure they're not actually "fat" at all but just showing the difference between domestic and working dogs!

I would probably not be able to resist the cuteness of BiteyDog's little nose and paws appearing near the counter and would end up treating him anyway Blush

BiteyShark · 23/12/2018 08:02

I have to use the visual guides to weight more than the scales because BiteyDog is very very muscular for a working cocker. All the other ones I see are thin but much smaller and everyone comments (vets and trainers) as to how solid he is purely with muscle. I think this is because he does lot of running and jumping for balls in short intervals in the forest. Maybe distantDog is getting just as muscular with the different terraine. I do drop his treats when he isn't at daycare but even then I am so fortunate he won't gorge himself if he isn't hungry.
