Puppy meeting other dogs

Hi, we have a 9 week mini schnauzer. She had her first vaccinations last week with breeder and second vaccinations are booked in for 4 weeks later 17th October.

We have a family lunch before the second vaccinations and there will be a (fully vaccinated) dog there. Is it ok for us to go?

I have called our vets and they said not until a week after 2nd vaccinations. However this vet website says it’s ok www.copelandvets.co.uk/fact-sheet-puppy-regime.html

Obviously we want to do the right thing, but also want her to meet other dogs.

Thanks

As far as I'm aware meeting vaccinated dogs is fine, and in fact encouraged to ensure the puppy is socialised appropriately during the socialisation window before the age of 12 weeks.

I understood the risk to be very low if all the dogs you meet are definately up-to-date vaccinated and the ground they are on has only had vaccinated dogs on it and no other wildlife - i.e. a very secure private garden.

I am not a vet though...

I will also add that socialisation is important but it is not critical she meet other dogs immediately. You can over socialise them and end up with different problems - such as a dog that is desperate to greet any dog they see.

Being able to see but not interact with a calm dog is just as good as rolling about on the floor with a friendly one, if not better. It's just not as cute Grin.

Being able to see but not interact with a calm dog is just as good as rolling about on the floor with a friendly one... at this age. Obviously, eventually you will want them to interact but no harm will be done by waiting.
