New dog next door

Hi, I'm a bit clueless about dog behaviour, so asking here.

Next door have just moved in, they have a dog I think it's a Basset hound. It's been barking/howling a LOT and the walls are thin so I'm pretty stressed. Is it likely to be just the dog settling in, or are bassets just barky dogs?

i should imagine its just settling in but if it is really disruptive i would say something to the neighbours x

I love the sound of the Basset that barks in the park, but I wouldn't want it as a neighbour! My sympathies if this is more than a settling in phase.
