Fleas!

I’ve just found fleas on my puppy!

Do I take her to the vet or treat them myself?

Also do I need to de-flea the house? Or just the rooms she’s been in? Kids had her upstairs earlier in one of the bedrooms.

Have you not been treating for fleas already? I would get a vet strength one, not one over the counter

BiteyShark · 03/09/2018 20:34

If you have found fleas on your puppy you can guarantee that they are everywhere.

I would go and get something from the vets that will treat the fleas. I use a monthly prescription tablet for worms, fleas and ticks having experienced a flea infested house in the past when we moved into a new home and wish to avoid that again.

No I haven’t demented pixie, I didn’t realise that I should have. I took her to the vet a couple of weeks ago and told the vet she was itching so could they treat her for fleas and the vet said she didn’t have fleas so didn’t need treating so I didn’t.

I’ll take her back tomorrow

Thanks Biteyshark. I’ll take her tomorrow and also have a look for a spray for the house.

Some people only treat fleas when they have found them. Personally I prefer to actively prevent/treat and my vets offer several different options as part of their vet health plan which I pay for monthly.

dementedpixie · 03/09/2018 20:42

My cats are treated monthly for flea prevention. I imagine dogs would get the same sort of treatment

Angelthekingcharles · 03/09/2018 20:42

Oh yes I’d definitely rather prevent!

How did you get rid of your infestation? Would you spray the full house if you were me or just the rooms she’s been in?

Indorex spray is good for the house. Quite expensive per tin but does the job. 2 dogs and a cat here. Keep them treated and up to date and it should do the trick. If I need to spray the house I will do it when they're out of the house just to be safe

dementedpixie · 03/09/2018 20:43

Think indorex is recommended for treating the house

Angelthekingcharles · 03/09/2018 20:46

Thank you, I’ll look for some of that.
