Lab puppy coming home at the weekend! What have we forgotten?

Have crate, big box for the first couple of nights, kongs, chew toys, vet bed, grooming brush. Puppy pads just in case (never used them with our Chi). Puppy treats and big feeding bowls.

We are able to block the kitchen off from the rest of the house if we need to pop out and he REALLY hates the crate. Kids have been warned that if anything’s left out and gets chewed that’s on them (they are teens and 7yo so old enough to be responsible).

Still not sure how ddog1 will be, she’s a chi x and can be v dismissive of other dogs. But will keep them separate other than introductions and then gradually build up. Cat will likely ignore puppy.

Is there anything else you think I’ve missed or haven’t considered? I’m so so excited, probs more than the kids Blush and want to get this right.

How have you been getting on?

YippeeKayakOtherBuckets · 26/08/2018 12:38

Oh he's just wonderful! Slept in our bed last night and got up for a wee in the garden at about 3am, and then up at 7.

He’s v placid and cuddly and hasn’t chewed anything yet, that may change!

Also, he’s got the idea of the puppy bells almost straight away! Too cute and funny. Even if the back door’s open he dings them before he steps out Grin.

Our chi smashes the cat flap, glares at us and flounces out 😂

YippeeKayakOtherBuckets · 26/08/2018 23:16

Sounds about right! We tried to get the chi to use the bells over the last few days and the looks we’ve had have been pure disgust. Like, ffs just open the door, foolish human.

He is gorgeous OP! Glad it's going well. The first few weeks of our lab puppy I was exhausted, you are definitely winning!

QOD · 26/08/2018 23:44

I’m almost scared to go to bed these days as I have to put her out first 😂

How's week 1 been OP?

YippeeKayakOtherBuckets · 02/09/2018 08:30

It’s been great! He’s just lovely. Chews EVERYTHING and my house smells of dog and dog pee, but he’s mostly got the idea of house training, he sits on command and gets down. Him and the chihuahua are firm friends and watching them play is hilarious.

We’re all smitten.

I wanted to call our dog monty. Shorthand for "monty fuck" (said in a dismayed scots accent for full effect). I was talked out of it but it would have been oh so appropriate during the puppy stage. "Aw monty fuck, no the new soffa"....."aw monty fuck, no ma best shoes" etc

LittleBookofCalm · 02/09/2018 08:37

aw what a beautiful boy, please remember chocolate needs to be kept up high, very high. my friend has a lab who has been to the vet more than once after stealing chocolate. particularly with kids around. my jack still steals food but she has a lower reach, and you will be used to your chi not having such a high reach.
why do the love something that is so bad for them!

feliciabirthgiver · 02/09/2018 09:46

Absolutely gorgeous, he looks so relaxed and obviously is already a fully fledged member of your family.

Our lab is now 2 but the only things I can recommend from the first year is a big box to keep all your shoes in and out of his way and Dr Beckmans carpet cleaner.

Enjoy every moment of him, he's gorgeous.
