Hello! We have a 10 year old lab. The absolute love of my live. Although he's a bit deaf and can't see that well he's getting along grand. We have noticed the last month or so that he has a terrible scent surrounding him. The first couple of time I assumed he had rolled in fox poo so bathed him and he did smell better....for about a day. The smell just keeps creeping back. Any room he goes into just reeks! My house is honking! I still love him, but I'm concerned this might be a medical condition? Due to the sudden onset? Or is he just a smelly old bear?

I would get a vet check.

Can you check his ears, mouth, teeth etc. Could also be an infection - anal glands infection reeks!

It is not a thing that old dogs smell I have a 13 year old lab who smells divine (today, yesterday not so good as he found the best muddy puddle ever) most of the time

Thanks for reply! I can't decide where it's coming from, my dds are delighting in telling him he's a smelly old bear but we still love him.

I've made a vets appointment for tomorrow, hopefully something simple like anal glands 🤔

Anal glands ?

NellieBee · 23/08/2018 23:37

what was the outcome, OP?

He has a skin infection! Sad we've been given special shampoo to wash this specific area three times a week for two weeks and then to pop back into the vets for them to assess how the skin is healing. It is only one patch but goodness me when you smell it up close Confused

He smells (slightly) better already, less pungent. I can't say how happy he is about that, I imagine he enjoyed the reek

I am so glad you have got to the source of it. Lets hope he smells like Flowers soon
