Just not coping

He’s a beautiful dog but I’m poorly and just not coping. I’ve only had him a few days, i’ve contacted the rescue but they can’t sort anything just yet and I feel all panicked. I don’t know why but I’m anxious and the only thing I can put my finger on is the dog.

Is there anything in particular you are struggling to cope with and are you happy to say what your illness is as someone might be able to help suggest things to make it easier.

Lots of us on here have had the 'puppy blues' and that applies to rescues as well where you just feel completely overwhelmed or anxious at first. It a big change and can be very full on but it does pass.

I think that’s it really. I feel overwhelmed and anxious. I’ve been sick and upset tummy since I got him. Maybe I need to give it time but then I think about him and get all panicky and the illness is making me think I’ve taken on to much.

It's completely normal to have the "oh God what have I done" moment after adopting a dog. I would almost worry if you didn't - it would be a sign you might not be taking it seriously enough! Even I had that moment when I formally adopted my dog, and I'd been looking after him for months so nothing actually changed on a day to day level.

It sounds like your illness is just making you feel normal feelings more acutely. I'd give it a few weeks and then see how you feel - it's incredibly rare for someone not to get over the puppy / adoption blues!

Definitely sounds like you are having that 'what have I done' wobble.

It's amazing how much impact they can have. Suddenly you are responsible for this fully dependant bundle of fur. I had that horrible anxiety feeling for a while but it passed and I can't imagine being without my dog now.

I had upset tummy when I got my puppy, it took a few weeks to settle down and get used to the new family member.

I think it's a bit like having a disruptive house guest at first, but honestly, they soon become part of the family and get into your routine. I don't think you have given it long enough tbh. What sort of dog is it and how old? (Just curious)

I had the new puppy panics with mine. didn't sleep at all weel for weeks.
He has been here since February and is very much loved now. Hang in there!

I was ill for a month after getting mine nausea anxiety lack of sleep. I lost 1/2 a stone (didn’t stay off) but it gets better especially when you can leave the house. Hang on in there.
