How many hours a day does your dog sleep

^ just out of curiosity.

My dog sleeps for approximately 19 hours a day- he is a 2-year-old GSD. Admittedly, he is on the lazy side and has been known to play dead on the front lawn when being taken out for a walk.

He gets one 1hr walk (plays fetch along the way) and a 20 min walk in addition to playing several games throughout the day (football, fetch, finding the hidden ball etc).

Anything between 12 and 22 depending on what she is doing that day, she goes to work with my DH a game keeper. She is a lurcher so is more than happy to sleep as long as we let her!!

Quite a bit less. He’s a Dalmatian so three hours running and walking. An hour playing ball. He still follows us around whenever we move about the house. He’ll settle near us but will be rolling around and chewing toys etc. I’d think he slept about 10-12 hours.

If she had her way it would be about 23.5! She's a young but typically lazy greyhound. As it is she wakes up for food and walks only and otherwise only leaves her bed under duress! 😊

He goes to work with my partner and sleeps on his lap most of the day...

Oh! I was going to say ‘the same as yours’ but mine’s a twelve year old Labrador and he definitely didn’t sleep that much at two!

He's a very well behaved and happy dog. I do get a bit concerned that he oversleeps (especially given his age and breed). The Vet has assured us that he has no medical issues.

When at daycare probably about 12 hours. On his days at home, much more - maybe 18-20? He’s 9 though so likes a snooze. At the weekend it depends on what we are doing.

I have an 11 month old pom, she sleeps around 12 hours a day. She won’t sleep if anything is happening around her, she’s very sociable and loves being at the heart of the action. She only sleeps overnight, if she’s left alone, in the car or if everyone in the house is sitting quietly.

I'd guess 15-18hrs or so, but she is a Whippet. 12 hrs at night, then 4/5 hrs during the day.

She wakes up if something is going on, visitors come to the office or she hears the rustle of a biscuit wrapper!

Lots and lots, but "sleep" is a relative concept with dogs. Often they're only just inside the boundary of sleep and are near-constantly on half-alert. Our staffy is across my lap at the moment apparently alseep and lightly snoring, but if I make a slight change in posture her eye half-opens and she's watching me with no change in the sound she's making.

I have a 6yo lab. She appears to sleep around 21-22 hours per day. The rest of the time she is on a walk, eating or barking at the postman!

Around 22 hours. He is absolutely bone idle. He also has hypothyroidism but even on treatment he still sleeps most of the time.

Six month old beagle.

It really depends on the day - sometimes about 18/19 hours and others 12 or so. I think it depends on the weather, what we're doing and whether he's at daycare or not.

Yorkie owner. He demands play, follows us around the house and alerts us to passing squirrels and the postman.

He barely crashes out, except in the evenings/night. Even then, he sees it as his duty to escort you to the loo if you go in the middle of the night.

I have a 18 month old pug if I let him probably about 24 hours a day but I'd say about 18-20. He reluctantly goes on 3 walks a day.

1 year old springer, sleeps about 16 hours a day.

I have two german shepherds who have a good walk and run on the farm then sleep the rest of the day despite loads of toys/chews etc.

I did think there was something wrong but they are just lazy

Mine sleep loads. Is yours a healthy weight? Since vet had cleared health issues I wouldn't be concerned. I worried mine get bored but they wake for curries, grooming, walks, etc.,

Most of the hours!! She plays dead before her second walk of the day because she can't be bothered! I have to double check she's alive a few times a day because she flat out ignores me and pretends to be deaf so I won't kick her out for a wee

Our 11 year old golden retriever sleeps about 21 hours. He suffers badly from arthritis so too much exercise is not a good idea. Can only walk 5 to 7 minutes with lots of stops in-between.

dudsville- my boy is exactly where he should be for weight. Seems he's just as bone idle as the others in my house.

A lot. This morning I went out to work just after 8, and he was in his bed in the hall and slept through me pottering about. Got home around 4.30 and he was asleep in his open crate by the kitchen door. He did get up at this point, and went to the door, which I opened. And realised I'd unlocked it, meaning no one else had let him out all day. On interrogating the rest of the family, no one had seen him by the door or even remembered him moving. He went out, didn't get off the patio, just jumped into a garden chair and seemed to go back to sleep!
